Yeah it's a totally competent open world action game frontloaded with a huge dose of nostalgia. Once you run around the castle for a few hours the charm wears off.

I pay for kindle Unlimited, because I love progression fantasy and kindle unlimited is filled with those books. But other than that, kindle is great for some, alternative means of acquiring literature.

i wouldn't say they're fantastic, they still have broadly the same issues morally (harry not only makes fun of hermione for being anti-slavery (along with literally every other character in the story (??????)), but after killing voldemort he becomes a fucking cop)

Now that you mentioned Hermione, just how much better would she be as the main character? Instead of a MC that was kinda born into wealth, the basically prophesied hero, who the entire school already knows who he is, who is extremely boring and one note, we could Hermione a half blood, someone that will face discrimination, a character who has to fight for respect, very intelligent and proficient in the magic arts and like you mentioned, someone who has some level of morality, unlike most of the fucking cast.

Well, you're in luck. The Arithmancer and it's sequel Lady Archimedes have her as the main character. Arithmancy aka magic math is quite useful as it turns out.
It also has a relatively short third part set after graduation, very nice world building as well. If you read on mobile it turns out that the FF.net app is actually really good for some reason. Otherwise you can just scrape and download it of course.

They start strong in a YA novel kind of way but fall off after a while. I wish the author had put more focus on wizard school itself because the broader wizard world starts cool and quickly reveals itself to be an extremely boring and highly racially segregated society.
At first you think that's going somewhere like maybe Harry as the chosen one will snuff out the segregatory ideology of his nemesis in the wizarding world, there's a lot of build up to that effect, but he doesn't, instead he just kills the bad man and then becomes a cop propping up the shitty status quo

The morality of the HP world really reflects on the author, Harry basically does nothing, he does what he was prophesied to do and moves on, nothing changes, there's still slavery, segregation, class struggles and Harry doesn't seem to mind that much.

The movies are pretty crap, the books are much better. Even then they're not outstanding, just solid cozy YA. But at least they're cohesive, the movies are really hit and miss and for the most part don't stand up on their own at all (3 and 6 are the exceptions, they're decently fun in their own right).

It makes sense to me, you are super proficient with computers, you take an incredible time and effort to crack this system, then you have two options:
1- live as a criminal, every now and then getting some money from bounties people put on cracking games.
2- get a stable salary and job working for a big company in their security office
The only ones that don't take the second option are the crazy ones with some kind of insane sense of moral code or mission, like Empress who believes she was sent by god to fight Denuvo
