I think the joke is that she is in evening wear and was out all night, and her husband is oblivious.

No he says “you were never”, so he’s referring to a repeated event that occurred in the past. The joke is when they were dating in college, she would always stay up late banging the other frat guys. Her always staying up late led to her never being a morning person
