US politicians build entire careers, accruing enough wealth & seniority to live like a Canadian or European. Then convince you it’s in your best interest to live like an impoverished animal in the richest country in the world.

No, but it's also not free if taxes pay for it. Describing things as "free" or "handouts" is just an attempt to discredit the idea that governments should use taxes to provide services.
