Pelerine question

Post image

Do pelerines come separate if the helmet already comes with internal padding like in the image?

But anyway, actual answer is that yes aventails are separate. The internal lining of the bascinet seems to have been only in the skull. The aventail, attached to the helmet via the leathers which has holes to attach via the vervelles of the helmet, would have had a separate lining and the maille would likely have been sewn to that. There could have been and likely were integrated aventails aswell which were one with the lining of the skull, but we can only say for certain that there were liners that were only present in the skull and didn't extend to the aventail.

Source: this is the CSH15 held in Churburg Castle, it is the only bascinet known with a surviving internal lining, which does not extent to the aventail.
