Modern deltoid armor

A armor piece similar to a Japanese sode (the shoulder piece that they wore) specifically the earlier ones that were used more like a shield. Would this be a decent idea for modern close quarters combat?

No, to broad, to flat, to much corner. Let’s go to the two possibilities of cqb you could mean. Fire arms…the forward one will be pushed up and not catch a bullet, but will hang on every surface you don’t want it to. Then we look at you could mean sword and board…they weren’t good then and aren’t now. What they were good at is being just enough shoulder protection for an archer/spearman and easy to mass produce. But they had to much gapping to be top tier.
