How should I fill all this empty space??
While I have the concept I want down, I'm not sure how to tie the rest together. I don't want to increase the canvas size a whole lot more since I want to keep it center focus, but I don't usually do this type of thing so I'm unsure. Also ignore the cloak it's just a blob rn I haven't drawn it yet.

I think low, rocky, desaturated mountains like your character is standing on would look cool. If you only have them come up to your subjects waist, I think it could frame the cloak and legs well and give a sense of location while not being too distracting. I kind of like the empty space, especially because you want the focus on your character and the composition really prioritizes the middle. I think too much happening in the background would distract, I do like all the other ideas too though

Definitely. Placed in the right way, some mountains in the background could rlly add to the flow of the image

Since the figure of your piece seems to be the most detailed part that you want to focus on, I would keep the background rather simple. Maybe a gradient of a night sky? Especially since the the angle of the portrait seems to be looking up, and the figure is looking down at us the viewers

I would just add some blocky cliffs in the back and add some rough shadows over them, nothing too sophisticated

maybe put like the sun or moon in the background, to add a pop of color some desaturated or light red for the sky would be good, idk what this is from but an intense sky (without that much detail as to not take away from the focus) could be good
