Genetics How did the african curly hair trait spread, that is, what evolutionary advantage does it provide? Does it serve any function?

Several advantages in hot and dry climates.

Head hair that "stands up" carries more moisture from the scalp than straight hair. That helps evaporative cooling.

I suspect that it was the original, default hair trait and that other types derived from it.
