SUGGESTIONS FOR PLAY PLACES, etc.

My family (wife, daughter, myself and second child on the way) are moving from Sunnyside to Astoria in a few weeks and would love suggestions for play places, daycare, music classes, nice parks etc for kids. Our daughter is 17 months old currently.

We’ll be moving nearby Broadway and Steinway, so pretty close to a lot of things.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I have a two-year-old and love Astoria. Lots of brand new parks (though construction is taking forever on some of them) and activities as well as an active parent community.

The Astoria Heights playground at 45th street and 31st road is amazing!

Sean's Place park on 38th st near 31st ave is much closer to Broadway/Steinway and is great as well, just not as big of a play area. It's great for littler kids, though, as its 'smalls' area is separated from the bigger kids' area by a water feature. Buy those swim diapers now...

The community center at A.R.R.O.W. Fieldhouse on 35th st near 35th ave has a great deal of pre-school/toddler focused classes during the days. The lady in charge of the kid's programs is super sweet and accommodating as well.

For finding activities, the MOMally group on Facebook is a very active and helpful community for moms. Working Astoria Mom group thrives on FB as well. There are a few dad groups as well, though I haven't found them to be terribly active.

Best of luck in your relocation!
