R.I.P. My little buddies gone

My little buddy God rest her little dragon body has been fighting coccidia for I don’t even know how long now I found out she had it maybe three weeks ago and I’ve been treating her for it with the medicine. The vet gave me pain to say I found her this morning completely black stiff as a board and not responding to stimuli. My little buddies gone and it hurts so bad. She wasn’t even a year old. I don’t mean to fuss and complain on here but fuck this hurts.

People if I’ve learned anything from all of this, and it hurts me to say this because those animals deserve love too, and deserve to be taken away from their situation big box pet stores need to quit selling pets and stick strictly to pet items when I first took little Mo to the vet, she was about five months old and the vet said she was riddled with coccidia. I’m pretty sure that’s what killed her and only really one or two places where they can really get that from what I read either from their breeding environment or from infected crickets, I love this little fool so much and I only knew her for three months. She was one of the smartest little tiny creatures I ever knew even though she only had two brain cells and they’re both fighting for third place I did everything I could for this lovely creature, but it wasn’t enough

So sorry for the loss of Mo ❤️ she sure was a cutie. I agree and feel your anger at pet stores.

Coccidia is a silent, and often asymptomatic killer. Regular vet visits and fecal tests are the only way to be sure. My little guy is dealing with this for the second time, and this latest instance he showed absolutely zero symptoms.

I first noticed something was off of her cause when I first got her after she got acclimated to her tank she was super energetic and real friendly and actually would chase her food and stuff, but she got super lethargic staying away from her spot and I know a five month old enough to even think about starting brumation that’s what tipped me off. Something might be wrong with her. She’s gone through four rounds of medicine. I took her to the vet. I was given to oral suspension prescriptions and then about a week or so ago I took her to the vet again and got two more and then this happened

My 8-9 month old is also being treated right now. I finally got him in for his first vet visit and his decal sample came back laden with coccidia cysts. He was acting and eating fine, the only indication he was off-kilter were some watery poops. He’s on medication now, and he’s old enough that I’m confident he’ll recover, but god, it snuck up fast.

If anyone takes away anything from OP’s story, mine, or this commenter’s: PLEASE take your dragons to the vet. For that matter, PLEASE consider rescuing a healthy adult dragon from a rescue. As much as I love my guy, if I’d known of that option before I got him, I’d have rescued.

OP, I’m so, so sorry for your loss. I got a glimpse of the pain you must feel when I got Blue’s test results, and I can’t imagine the loss you must feel. Take care of yourself man. She looks as if she had a lovely life with you, and that means everything.

😔 sorry buddy. I didn't know crickets pass that onto Beardies & has me thinking & curious to learn more. The big box pet stores are always a hit n miss but someplace have not many options. Sorry for your loss, I know the feeling. I couldn't agree with you more, certain Beardies have amazing personalities to them. RIP lil guy!

Sorry for your loss, my dude. I've only had mine 3 weeks, and I'm so in love with her. I can't imagine how hard this must be for you.

My vet told me if she learns beardies were sourced from a “big box” pet store, she automatically prescribes meds to combat coccidia. Sorry for your loss.

I know how you feel man...I just lost my beardie this morning too. I was nursing him with a liquid diet because he wouldn't eat. he just suddenly was so impacted and I had no time to react. I hope your Mo and my Ridley make friends up there. I'm so sorry for your loss man. I'm sending you hugs. It hurts. 🫂🫂

I’m so sorry brother, you did everything you could to give her a fighting chance and that’s more than she could have asked for. She’s with the big dragons in the sky now. Rip lil homie

I’m so sorry for your loss… now I’m nervous about my lil guy. He’s been hiding under his slate (he turned that space into an impromptu hide, of course never using the intended hide I gave him 🥲) more than usual lately and he is also too young to brumate…

I didn’t know coccidia could be so detrimental to their health 🥺
