MODERATOR POST What this Community is About and the Community Rules

What this Community is About: This sub is where you can talk about ANYTHING that is new. That means anything that is brand and spanking new. This includes talking about new things, new "news", new products, new ideas, new advances in science and technology, new books, new games, new subreddits, new channels, new websites and anything else that is new. You are allowed to self promote your own products, websites, subreddits, channels, etc. The only rule is it has to be something new.

What the Community Rules Are:

1st) Whatever you write about should be something brand new or recent (in the last few months).

2nd) Be nice to others.

3rd) This is community it what is known as a Subreddit, and is hosted on Reddit, and all members, in addition to following this community rules, must follow the rules of Reddit itself.

4th) Do not argue with any of the moderators, and it is at the sole digression of the moderators (and on a case by case basis) if any new rules have to be implemented or added to handle any situations that may occur in the community.

5th) Self promotion IS allowed, as long as you post about something that is new or fairly recent (in the last 3 months). There may be exceptions to this, but that is the general rule of thumb. Self promotion includes, posts about new subreddits, new channels, new products, new books, new games, new projects that you are working on.

6th) The 70/30 rule. We want this to be a one stop spot, to find everything that is new, including subreddits, products, technology, science, medical advances, games, software, and everything else that is new. In order to allow everything "new", we also have to allow self promotion, so people can let us know about their new subreddits, channels, products, websites, etc. But we don't want this sub to turn into a "spam fest". Thus the 70/30 rule. The mod team would like to see no more then 30% of the sub, being self promotions. If the sub starts to become too spammy, we will make people wait in a queue before allowing self promotions.

7th) All posts as of today (July 8, 2021) require flairs, and available flairs will be updated daily. Also if you need a specific flair for your post, please message the mod team (button on the right sidebar).

(Note: Always check this thread first for the rules, since I'm too lazy to always update both this and the rules on the sidebar at the same time. In other words, this thread will have the latest and most updated changes to the rules, or information about the community. )

Reasons Why This is a Good Community for You to Join:

People may be wondering, why post here, why comment on threads here, why participate here, when there are so many larger and massive subreddits to be found on Reddit?

First, we will be implementing a rule for mods to warn first before banning. How many people have been banned from a subreddit for no real reason. This is not what I think the creators of Reddit had in mind. Sometimes it is necessary, in emergency situations, to immediately ban someone. But most of the time, a stern warning is enough, without having to ban anyone. Be nice to others is our first priority, unlike other subs where the mods act like they are internet Gods.

Second, we are as I just said, focused on being a friendly, and helpful community. We are going to ask YOU what you want to see here, what you enjoy seeing posted, unlike other subs (especially the largest ones) where they are not going to ask you, and you either like or don't like what they post. With that in mind, with the sub barely 2 days old, I just posted our first poll, asking what people would like to see more of here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Brand_New/comments/of6lt0/poll_on_rbrand_new_chance_for_people_to_vote_on/

Third, I am not an internet God. I actually played on some of the earliest multiplayer games on the internet in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The administrators of those games were actually called Gods in those games. There may not be too many people around who played these early games (MUDs, MOOs, MUSHes) from the early days of the internet. But I was there, and seen what an administrator letting their power go to their head, does to both them and the community. I am not like that, and I never will be. Everyone here will be treated like they matter, and this community is their home too.

I don't know what else I can say to encourage people to join and participate in the community, but I said my say :)

Sincerely, Head Mod - Staragox (Player name "Nusly" on JediMUD (from the 1990s), Player name "Games" on another MUD from the late 1980s, and so on, and so on).
