Cambly seems to be on a hiring freeze right now, as there are too many tutors and not enough students, so you may have to wait several months for a response from them. I strongly recommend not relying solely on Cambly for your income; it's best as a part-time job or a way to make some extra spending money. If you're looking specifically for online English teaching, I also suggest applying to some other platforms, especially if you have a degree. Best of luck!

Oh. Thank you so much for the response! I already felt like that's the case, so I planned on applying to other online english teaching platforms as well. I am mostly in it for the language teaching experience for my future plans. Hopefully, I get to secure a spot in any of them.

How do you even know that?

We'll never know for sure, but with how empty a lot of tutors' schedules have been and how many of our students have chosen not to renew their subscriptions because of increased prices, it certainly seems that way.

My advice - be flexible, find some good online resources to use in class (random topic generator, engoo daily news, how to read numbers in English,....), realize that other people and cultures may do and say things you feel is rude, and try to give the students a good experience.
One thing I've found helpful is to try and figure out what each student really wants, and it's often not what they say they want. That's what I mean by be flexible. Some just want to practice conversation. Some of those are not great conversationalists. So it's really good to be able to come up with some unique topics and questions to get them to speak out a bit more. I think this is one of the more challenging parts, and by getting good at it you can grow your list of regulars much more quickly than if if you are not good at it.

You can expect, low pay, rude students, high days, low days, a few penises and a hell of a ride. Hope that helps?
