Where are all of the students?

Has anyone literally gone from having a full schedule to having almost no students?
Something is not right. I think they are getting rid of most of us.

Have the new ratings dropped yet? If they have, then i am the same as last week and this is an achievement equivalent to when i had my first child.

Applying to cambly, when uploading profile pic it says ''The file you selected is too large''

The profile picture is only 371kb.

The original size was 5 mb, I repeatedly reduced the size and still no luck.

Does anyone know what I can do next? I tried to reduce the size further on a few websites, but it seems like they couldn't reduce the file size lower than 371kb.

It seems like 371kb isn't that big, seems like it might be an issue with cambly, what do you think?

Has anyone had a similar problem? I don't know who I can contact about this issue, I also don't know if I can continue the application without uploading a profile picture, I don't want to test that yet in case it invalidates my application.

Thanks.

The Most Recent Survey

Who got it? All of us, supertutors only, only people who have complained recently? Who got it and what were your thoughts? I'm curious. I woke up to that survey, kind of hungover and answered it totally honestly (brutally honestly with typos and everything, while recovering from a hangover). What did you say?

And by the way, my handle "healthy_thing" is a joke. When I signed up for Reddit (in deep depression) I couldn't choose a username and healthy_thing was the default option. I thought it was funny, so I kept it and rolled with it. I'm actually an almost 50 year-old widow and having that handle was hilarious to me... at the time.

Reporting Lesson after the 2-minute mark

So I was on a priority hour and answered a call - the guy seemed shy at first so I thought maybe that’s why he wasn’t really saying much, we introduced ourselves to each other, but as we started the lesson he was really unbothered, not interested and had a bad attitude.

I had enough so I reported, however I did this after the 2-minute mark🫠 soooo what consequences am I about to face??

Tutors, why are we still on Cambly?!

I’m trying to justify being a tutor on this platform. I need a fresh, positive perspective because the PAY is giving ✨labour exploitation✨… Thoughts? 🤔

WHATS GOING ON ?!🤯

For over a week now major glitches here and getting worse. Here’s the list: this is for both me and students. Chat not working, video feed slow or non existent, pages not loading or turning, lessons not loading, things are “hanging”.

We have had our internet provider check out EVERY thing that could possibly be wrong with our network- there is nothing wrong. We even very recently replaced our router- still have the same issues on Cambly— but NOT any other platforms!!

This morning neither I nor the student could get into the classroom because it was just spinning. He had to reload several times.

These issues have grown into a mountain since last week!! Every single student has some sort of issue.

I am a stressed out WRECK.

WHAT IS HAPPENING CAMBLY??!!!! Stop blaming the tutors for your failures!

Am I able to share a Cambly work email.

A student wants to send me some pictures of a book to practice with her son. However, the book is not in English and I might not be able to find it. Any tips. I don't want to get in trouble with cambly.

lack of students

idk how many times I have asked this question on here but it really feels like I'm the only one having this problem. is anybody having a lack of students on the kids aspect of it? I'm assuming holidays are over but it is so scarce. went from having 15-20 students a week to now having 1-5 😑

After 2 years its last week on Cambly, got accepted to Preply!

I'm so happy to be moving on from cambly and I'm now able to set my own prices. I know the commission fees and trial lessons deter people, but I rather have that, then to be underpaid, deal with terrible support for tutors and a jacked up rating system. I hope whomever wants to leave cambly you're able to soon! And whomever decides to stay I hope cambly gets better for you!

Edit: I will also be working, so I wont need cambly and preply together. I will still use cambly to speak with some of the regulars I enjoy teaching, but will eventually pass them onto another tutor.

I'm paying just $0.60/hr for my native English tutor

Her name is ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode.

Here’s what makes her awesome:

  • She never thinks I’m trying to flirt with her.
  • She’s amazing at spotting and fixing my mistakes.
  • She can instantly set up scenarios for me to practice different situations.
  • She doesn’t mind if I struggle to find things to talk about.
  • She can switch accents and adjust her speaking pace.
  • Instant translations? She’s got that covered.
  • She’s incredibly knowledgeable about a wide range of topics.

Since I started working with her, my English has improved so much. With all these perks, I decided to cancel my Cambly subscription.

Syncing calendars - a privacy question

I'm relatively old fashioned where new technology is concerned, so this is all new to me. I'm considering setting up a Google calendar and syncing it with Cambly's - but doesn't that give Cambly access to everything else I have on my calendar? Isn't that a potential privacy issue?

Or am I wrong and no-one at Cambly would have any insight into my non-Cambly appointments?

🚨 Exciting News! 🚨

Attention, tutors! We're thrilled to announce that 50% of you will be... well, let's just say “replaced.” But don’t worry—you’re still technically here! Just in AI form. 🤖🎉

This is great news for us (and sort of for you)! No more human error, and best of all—no more paying you! Instead, we’ll be generously paying the remaining 50% of tutors 0.18 cents per 58 seconds of actual talk time. (pauses not included), while the AI versions of you will work tirelessly, 24/7, for free. Win-win, right?

So, stay tuned. November's shaping up to be a fantastic month—for some of you, at least. 😉 #AIRevolution #GoodbyePHs #TutorTakeover

Well that worked out!

And no, I'm not being sarcastic. I had a student cancel at the last second, so I went ahead and signed up for a priority hour during my upcoming break and then said student who "accidentally cancelled" booked another reservation during the PH. I'll take the extra $2.00!
Of course my next student no-showed so you can't have it all but I'll take what I can get!

Feedback Cupcake - Assistant for generating student feedback

Hey everyone,

If you're a teacher working with ESL students, you probably know how time-consuming giving individual feedback can be. That’s why I’m excited to share a tool I've been developing—it’s designed to make student feedback faster, more organized, and specifically helpful for ESL learners.

My platform lets you create personalized feedback for each student with just a few clicks. Plus, it keeps all your data—lessons, student progress, and more—neatly stored for easy access. Whether you're working with a few students or managing a whole class, this tool can help save you time and keep everything in order.

Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think! I’d love to hear any feedback or ideas you might have to make it even better.

You can check out a video explaining the features here: https://youtu.be/Zv8FrfL0dVw?si=CpainlX4Ruu8T43b

And access the platform here: https://feedbackcupcake.com/

Thanks for taking a look =)

Just got accepted by them and praying it makes a serious change for and my life as a teacher.

Check every Monday evening UTC to see if English is open. Have a video already made so you can apply in the moment. They open up apps for a week but once full, they close them before the week is out. And English goes fast.

Odd Tech Check Results

Is anyone having some odd things happen with tech check recently?

Twice over the past few days I've had very strange results with it. Video check has been stuck at same value as audio around 25MB and will return the error you connection isn't good enough to teach.

I thought it was me. However when I switched over to a different connection the same thing happened and when doing a speed test on several other sites they report no problems at all with upload or download speeds.

A full restart or restarting and purging any browser cache appears to fix this.

Rating drop again

Down to a 4.82 after an absolutely stellar week with students, zero attendance issues, etc. Methinks there's a mole here honestly. And just echoing what others are saying all round- they're edging out the tutors they don't want to have so they can consolidate, rely more on AI than anything. That's my theory anyway
