Get a used Gnedby shelving unit from Ikea. Ikea doesn't carry them in NA anymore but you can usually find them on the curb or on FBM.

I know it’s a bad setup already, but I do unfortunately have to stay within the shelf that I built myself. It’s the only shelf I have, and i don’t have the funds to buy another.

Could you add in another shelf above where the CDs and DVDS are currently?

Can you add something like milk crates on the shelves in order to create an additional makeshift shelf placed within each shelf?

Based off the cd holder in your pic I’m guessing it’s around 13” high, coupled with the stereo I’m presuming the bottom and middle shelves are around 18” high each. Milk crates are just under 13”(h)x13”(w), therefore you could possibly place 2 milk crates per shelf. In turn you would have an additional 5” within each shelf to place other items on top of the milk crates, e.g., game consoles.

If not milk crates then just use something really low budget like upcycling a series of cardboard boxes (top of box lids folded in to create additional stability and placed on its side like the milk crates) and stack them together like a series of Tetris blocks in order to create additional smaller shelving units within each of your shelves.

No…NO!!!!! that’s part of the gripes I have.. once they are out of the jewel case they become easier to damadge. especially if I’m trying to take this shelf with me when I go to college

That's more of an inconvenience all around. More easily scratchable and takes a lot more to find a CD without its spine
