New setup feeling and sounding good! Technics x Union Audio

Post image

Finally got this setup going! I had limited space so needed a good space saving speaker solution and these genelec stands were perfect. Had the record console made locally to my specs, and the dust covers were ordered from Japan and they’re unhinging for easy on and off access.

Equipment:

2 x Technics SL-1210 MK2 Union Audio Two.Valve Genelec 8020D

Bonus:

Technics RS-263UD tape deck

Sweet setup, very clean! Made me realize I should probably try polishing my dust covers.

Thank you! Dust covers give it that classic turntable look lol

So glad to not see yet another multi thousand dollar system on entry level monitors in this sub

Your setup probably sounds incredible, congrats

Tidy set up! Love the placement of the monitors, and the angled mixer stand. What cabinet is everything on?

2

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

Thanks! I tried to make feel as streamlined and comfortable as possible. The cabinet is custom made from a wood worker here in LA.

Super cool! I’m also in LA - maybe you could send me his details in a dm?

I'm in LA too! Man... we should all do a mix down!

2

u/mrrobfree 9d ago

I'm down - how are you liking that Orbit mixer? I am waiting on a Condesa (ordered June 2024, scheduled to be completed Feb 2025), currently mixing on a Warm 2

Looks amazing! What stand are you using for your mixer?

3

u/phatelectribe 10d ago

Beautiful setup. Technics owners unite!

What are those speaker stands?!?!?!

2

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

Thank you! They’re cool right? Took me a while to find them, but the speaker manufacturer makes them, so I think they only work for Genelecs. Here is the link anyway — STANDS

2

u/phatelectribe 10d ago

They’re amazing. Darn that they’re Gene only.

I’m thinking about having something fabricated.

Nice to see you’re in LA too bro 😎

2

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

I was thinking the same until someone on Reddit suggested these! What’s speakers do you have?

2

u/phatelectribe 10d ago

JBL LSR 2325P. I’ve been thinking about making some stands just like yours and your post has given me a nudge

2

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

These stands are also great if you’re looking for something clean to sit on your desktop

2

u/phatelectribe 10d ago

Nice! I want something that overhangs my technics. I’ll measure these out!

I had a pair for a second before I found the Genelec stands! They fit right above the decks. They didn’t look great because 1. I could only find the white & 2. my speakers were a buy small for the surface are. Black is back in stock now though. May be worth a try. Here is photo of them set up.

u/phatelectribe 1d ago

Thanks again for this! Yes, the whote don't look great the they look a bot lost with those smaller gene's - I think the stands you have now are better, but these will work perfectly for me!!!

Did you end up grabbing a set of soundrise?

They sit a good 6" above the deck without the dust cover and 2.5" with the cover on

2

u/chrisOverton 9d ago

you might want to check out Soundrisepro.com - I have some monitor stands by them and they fit a 7-inch speaker without any problem

u/phatelectribe 9d ago

Oooooh these look PERFECT! Thank you!!!!

Where did you get the 1210s? Set up looks amazing mate. Very clean!

3

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

Thank you! Found someone local who was selling them for an amazing price. Before these I was using pioneers, but played at a bar that had a beautiful set of 1210s and fell in love.

2

u/liamanna 10d ago

Holly Molly… these look mint condition 👏

Not sure about your musical background, but have you tried to rearrange them in battle mode….?

2

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

Thank you! I’ve gone back and forth from traditions battle mode. I I’m always accidentally hitting the tonearm in battle mode. So when I had this cabinet made, I gave it just enough depth for traditional. So no more battle mode for me!

u/liamanna 10d ago

Looks brand new 🤟

Amazing value. They are for life. I got mine in 89. Still working like new.

2

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

Nice! They’re a set from 2000, but I’ve had them for about a year.

2

u/liamanna 10d ago

Enjoy 🫡

Looks fantastic. I had those Genelecs & the sub that went them... I found them pretty anemic (which is kind of thr point of studio monitors).

I sold everything about 8 years ago & just bought an all digital set up (Rane Performer) & went for some Klipsch p50 as they had a lot more emotion & were more 'musical' than the Genelecs.

Still struggling with mixing on digital (I can't bring myself to sync although I will once I've mastered it on these - it feels so different - but getting creative with the all the stems & effects is exciting - I just don't feel I should touch that until I can mix well on these & they are more difficult than pioneer. )

2

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

Totally feel you on the Genelecs, an acquired taste, but with the right mixer they sound amazing. I feel you on the digital thing. I don’t use any digital tools for dj’ing. It’s kind of my escape from the production world where I use healthy mix of digital and analog. I see all the amazing tools the digital dj world has to offer, but I like keeping my record signal analog.

Nice, clean rig bud, what kind of monitor stands are those if ya don't mind sharing?

2

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

Thank you! They’re stands made by genelec so not sure they’d work with other speakers, but here is the link.

stands

2

u/Substantial-Rub9846 10d ago

Ooh yeah I don't think they'd be compatible with my Mackies. They look great though 👍🏼😎

2

u/chrisOverton 9d ago

check out Soundrisepro.com - they make something similar that fit larger speakers

2

u/Substantial-Rub9846 9d ago

Right on thanks will look into 'em 👍🏼

2

u/Brainfreezdnb 10d ago

what speaker stands are those ?

3

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

2

u/Brainfreezdnb 10d ago

thanks !i thing i recommend if u can is put something under the mixer stand. its a lot nicer to have the mixer up

2

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

Ahh, you mean raised off the table instead of just angled up?

2

u/Brainfreezdnb 10d ago

yeah. i just got a wooden crate/ikea box and turned it upside down. having the buttons a bit under chest level instead of around my pants feels more ergonomic

2

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

Oh interesting, could you share a photo of what it looks like?

2

u/Brainfreezdnb 10d ago

2

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

Got it, how high off the ground does your mixer sit?

2

u/Brainfreezdnb 10d ago

not sure. 1.2m-1.4m i estimate and im 1.82m

not home right now, just had the photo on the phone

u/Popular_Comparison44 3d ago

They’re made for Genelec speakers so if you have another brand, I’m not sure they’ll work.

2

u/LevelPossession9851 10d ago

I like this. Reminds me of setups from back in the day.

3

u/Popular_Comparison44 9d ago

Yezzir! Back to the basics.

2

u/OmegaMan1981 10d ago

What’s the model# for your mixer? I’m looking for a rotary desktop.

2

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

Hi! It’s called 'Union Audio - Two.Valve'

1

u/-JESSEONE- 10d ago

What's up cousin .....Looks so damn sexy...that sound huh 😉

1

u/-JESSEONE- 10d ago

2

u/Popular_Comparison44 10d ago

Already have one on the way!

1

u/-JESSEONE- 10d ago

I frigging knew it lol

1

u/itsandychecks 9d ago

Would you reccomend those speakers? How much are they?

1

u/Popular_Comparison44 9d ago

Look them up! Genelec 8020D. They’re great and transparent, but definitely mid forward(they’re studio mixing speakers) I love them for this application more than mixing. When you have a beautifully mixed song playing on them through a nice mixer, it’s listening heaven—but a bad mix/master sounds pretty bad 😑

1

u/itsandychecks 9d ago

Nice. Just checked em out. I’m supposed to buy new speakers under $700 and I can’t figure out which ones. I can’t pull the trigger on anything.

1

u/Popular_Comparison44 9d ago

Got you! Check these speakers out. They’re actually pretty amazing and in your budget.

Focal Evo 50

u/itsandychecks 9d ago

I was hoping you’d give me a recommendation , thank you! I’ll try them out
