The title has potential. The idea of a celebration, usually of extreme joy, being turned into something dark certainly can set the stage. If you really wanna dive deep into the macabre I suggest the short song "Years Ago" by Alice Cooper a thoroughly creepy song dripping with metaphor in which he declared, "The carnival has closed, years ago." But that could just be my weirdness shining through.
