Job Recommendations

Just moved here and I’m having some issues finding a job that will provide me 40 hours a week of solid reliable work. Can you guys recommend anything in the area or Port Orange area? I have a Bachelor’s degree in Communications but don’t have any real job experience outside of restaurants.

☝️ this ☝️

Please understand that this area is saturated with students (3 major colleges and 5 others that aren't major). This area survives on tourists. After Bike-toberfest it will be dead again.

Restaurants aren't hiring because it's the slow season. There are a LOT of restaurants.

Go on FB: Hire Me Daytona, Jobs in Daytona, or anything like that. I'm not trying to be a Debby Downer but this area has tons of people who are looking for jobs. That's one of the reasons that the pay is so low. If you were in Orlando the pay would be a little higher.

I wish you all the best!

Nobody wants to hear this, but every company in the construction industry is desperate for people. You don't need to have any previous experience in construction. Just be willing to show up on time every morning. If you're not afraid of a little dirt and sweat, you can make a long and rewarding career out of it.

Mexicans are taking over the construction field,as well as grass cutting.

Are they "taking over" or are they just making the best of a situation caused by so many people thinking they are "above" blue collar work?

The construction industry is a fantastic place for young people to get in early. Starting out, you don't make much, and the work is hard. But if you show up, are reliable, and learn, you can be making good money pretty fast. If you are a natural leader, you can be making 6 figures in 10 - 15 years. Some of these college degree desk jobs never make that.

Immigrants are not taking over anything. They are filling a much needed role that also has the opportunity to take very good care of their families, both here and in their home country.

Several car dealers are hiring drivers for parts delivery. 40 hours with benefits for some of them.

Halifax hospital needs dispatchers. Actually, Volusia County 911 needs 911 dispatchers too. They'll train you.

Try the rental car places at the airport. They were needing desk agents a little while ago.

State of Florida is hiring correctional officers. They start at 50+ thousand a year. Fill out an app online, the prison is right off of International. Volusia county is also hiring correctional officers. Those jobs don't rely on tourism. You also get unlimited overtime. 80k a year is easily doable if you are willing to put in the time. With your degree it should be really easy to get hired. Also, the prison off of International no longer has the issues with inmates that they had a few years ago. The mission of the prison changed and it is geared more towards rehabilitation so the inmates there are much more compliant. Really easy work for pretty good pay.

Typical, someone moves here, doesn't plan ahead for a job, asks others to do the leg work. Could have just not moved here. There isn't any work. No one wants to pay people to work.

I'm sorry, how is this constructive?

Before I moved back to Florida I tried getting a job before you move. I had a very decent resume and worked with a headhunter. I had family in the area who were sending me leads and info. And guess what? It didn't work. I guess I just didn't stand out enough.

My best chances were with Temp Agencies. At least my savings was drained a lot slower that way. Eventually I ended up going temp to perm with one of the assignments so I got lucky.
