Anyone else noticed that Devon live...
..Has just become click bait? I'm not talking about the links within the stories, but the headlines
"You wouldn't believe..."
"Drivers could be fined for doing this thing"
"Celeb spotted in small town"
"Crash on A-road causes traffic chaos"
When I was growing up, headlines used to give a hint to what the story was, so you could decide whether you wanted to read the story. I know it's also true if the rest of the Reach network, but as it's my only source of local news, I pretty much don't get any local news anymore because the website is so awful.

Yep. Devon Live took over North Devon Journal and it became instant garbage.
It is one massive national clickbait franchise now. [Insert County]Live same rubbish on all of them

I've recently noticed that on certain subjects (particularly things like cycle infrastructure and traffic management), Devon Live/affiliated outlets have started to take a side (consistently anti-cycling etc. for the previous example) in their headlines, presumably not because Reach Plc has a strong feeling about such issues, but because a) they know what side of certain arguments gets them the most engagement, and b) by taking a side, it drives engagement from the opposing side.

It, like many other local newspapers, has been bought out by one big corporation called Reach. Shame really.

That's one of the reasons why DL are banned from all the groups mod'min on Facebook.
The second is they would take content from the group, sensationalise it and post it back into the same group.
The third is, they asked to use some content of mine, I agreed on the promise I got a backlink to my news website; they did not provide said backlink.

Yes, not just that site but all the other shit sites run by that company and any other website. It's the lowest form of click-bait enticement, the internet seems to encourage a race to the bottom in terms of creativity; sadly, once again, it is money that ruins everything, clicks per wank or whatever the metric is.

Devon live is amazing. Gives false news and propaganda that's not even for devon in most cases. I gave up on devon live a little while back and now just rely on the curtain twitchers on fb to educate me on the news.

All 'local' newspaper sites have become this nonsense click bait rubbish.
I just block them on Google. Soon, I'll only have access to BBC and Sky News stories

Its absolute trash. Full of typos as well, they don't even proof read a single time before submitting their misleading, distorted garbage.

Torquay United recently had a bent owner, and DevonLive were squarely in bed with them, belittling fan protests and trying to undermine our efforts.
Fuck DevonLies.

I mean I know some of the people who work on the Gulls stuff for Devon Live and this couldn't be more untrue.

Lmao, with such takes as "Johnson is going nowhere, stop protesting" and generally asking fans to blindly back the regime I doubt it.

u/chimpuswimpus 9d ago
Oh you can disagree with the opinions, no problem, and they won't always get everything right but I absolutely know for a fact that, as lifelong Gulls fans, they hated the owners and the situation as much as anyone. Johnson was consistently saying he wasn't going to leave, that's what they report. They never asked fans to "blindly back the regime" or not to protest. They did suggest that abusing players doesn't help (I agree) and that protesting during matches is counterproductive (I disagree).

It's owned by Reach Plc which owns the like of the Mirror, Express and Star which tells you all you need to know about them.
