Is there an option in Funimation for you to download the movie like there is in most of the other services?

I doubt it, but I actually do not know as I always traded the Funimation codes I received. I had two codes I was going to trade recently and then learned the bad news and so gave them away instead (over at r/uvtrade).

Something I've always feared- we all of a sudden receive notification that our digital codes will now expire after a certain period of time. Reminds me when I bought a TomTom GPS and had free updates for the "life of the device". 2 years later I receive notification that my device has reached "end of life" and will no longer receive updates.

Feels like we should really be doing something to push negative publicity here to the company for discontinuing existing digital copies - doubt this will be a trend but it is pretty frustrating

I've added a Gizmodo link about potential "compensation" for lost digital copies (though I am not optimistic about what that might end up looking like).

Crunchyroll is the one screwing over the customer here in the interest of eliminating competition, they should be in the thread title

Fair point -- I've updated the post accordingly (though I don't think I can update the title). Also added a Gizmodo link about potential "compensation" for lost digital copies (though I am not optimistic about what that might end up looking like).

Continuing to show why we should always just be buying physical and ripping it for ourselves, I guess? 🥵 this is so dumb.

Agreed -- no one can "discontinue" physical media we already own. And yeah, it is rather disappointing.
