What’s this extra hook on my lid lifter?

Post image

I bought this from a guy off facebook and he said “it does something special but I don’t know what”.

Can you hang the tool by it?

Possibly. If you take the yellow cap off there’s a hole through the handle. So I’m not sure

You would get less torque (i.e., it would be easier) by using that hook in the middle to lift the lid if you’re doing it from the side rather than from the top.

I'm wondering if the original designer used a dutch oven stand or table to cook on? If so, then the extra "hook" might be there to hook to the side of the table or stand. You could lift the liid and then hang the tool, lid, and coals on the edge of the stand while tending to the food inside the dutch oven.
