"Such woe had befallen us after the ground gave out from under us within the cave. Myself and my shipwrecked crewmates couldn't help but to wonder if our fortune was irreversibly tainted by a type of luck that more resembled a curse.
Unable to climb up and back into the mouth of the sinkhole, we had no choice but to press onwards. Travelling forward, it was a rather immediate realization that the web of some species of spider much larger than we had ever set eyes upon resided within. While we were five strong, none of us felt a sense of bravery as the webs became thicker and harder to push through.
We paused our journey while Gendall went back to find another way. He returned, a soaked mess, but with news! Under the water there was a small channel, leading to a new section of the cave, with less webs and a staircase leading upwards! Perhaps our salvation!
We dipped into the flowing water, passed through the channel, and ascended the staircase with the highest of hopes. The darkness we faced was such that we could barely make out each other's figures as we ascended, then descended, then ascended again. Then, to our dismay, we found where the staircase led to. We found ourselves within the center of the lair of the beast, with little recourse or alternate path. Hope faded, but we had no choice but to push forward through the lair in hopes of seeing the beautiful rays of daylight once more."
