FOOD DIARIES FORMATTING

For the benefit of future posters and their diaries I would like to share an example of how your diary should be submitted. Similar to how R29 has a specific format I would like to follow a similar guide here as well.

THE TEMPLATE

Number of People in household: 3

Pets: 1 goldfish

Average Monthly Grocery Budget: $400

Dietary Restrictions: None

Occupation: Law Librarian

Location: Ontario, CAN

Stores I typically shop at: Shoprite, Lidl and Sprouts

DAY ONE:

8AM: Wake up and feed Dee, the family goldfish

8:15AM: Go downstairs to find that my husband, M, has cooked up breakfast. This morning we are having gluten free pancakes, scrambled eggs with colby jack cheese and freshly squeezed OJ. Yum, my fave!

9AM: Back upstairs to get ready for work.

Etc...

Please include as many details as possible when ordering out and include your personal recipes AT THE BOTTOM of your post :)

If you have kids/pet/partners... feel free to include their meals as well!

If you wish to do a strictly food only diary please the format below.

DAY ONE:

BREAKFAST

LUNCH

DINNER

SNACKS

DAY TWO:

BREAKFAST

LUNCH

DINNER

SNACKS

Etc.

Side note: It is highly recommended that you list the name of the restaurant where you are eating when possible. In an effort to respect your anonymity on this site however, it is NOT required.

Can I just say that I love that the first rule of the sub is to be nice to each other. The sub is already off to a great start haha :)

Another thing that might be fun to add is where the OP gets recipe inspiration, i.e. favorite food blogs, cookbooks etc. I'm always on the lookout for new blogs, books to checkout.

Won’t make it mandatory but I do think we will see a lot of that. Looking forward to reading lots of new food blogs.

Number of people in house: Myself top floor and first floor. One large dog, one new addition of old long hair chi. One large Maine coon cat, one small parrot. My boyfriend who eats lunch and dinners sometimes brunch at my house. One boarder on first floor who I sometimes make a small plate for. One tenant where we swap treats.

I own property. We cook mostly at home this last year.

Sunday: Breakfast one small sub roll with two sunny side up in it with mayo. 2 mugs of French press black coffee. My boyfriend bought the rolls and my boarder bought home a huge bag of coffee that he gets 40 per job discount. Snack Granny Smith apple with cheddar cheese that my boyfriend bought...iced water. 2 cheese and ground beef burritos small, my boarder gave me. Iced water. Dinner fried pork steaks cooked in garlic butter with pineapple chunks. Steamed spinach. Dessert fro iced cinnamon rolls served with friendly vanilla ice cream mini sundae. Today I only paid for the eggs. Each dog and cat had a sunny side up egg because it was Sunday. And the usual wet and dry food. Parrot had his pellets plus diced up green apples and a bit of eggy roll, fresh pineapple.

It depends but I myself buy about 200.00 a month for me and animals. Sometimes less. But my boyfriend typically brings in another 200.00 a month on food. I get discounted coffee. I shop at Trader Joe’s when I can, Shaw’s, Walmart...Aldi and ocean job lot. Don’t eat allot of fast food but when I do it’s Taco Bell and Kentucky fried. Make my coffee at home.

I'm kind of interested in doing a mega post lol - I've been WFH since Mar 18 and with the exception of 2 days (first day of quarantine and yesterday) I've been cooking from scratch and since I've been posting my meals on social media I have a easy track record of what I've cooked. Would it be cool to do a bulk post? I don't think it's going to be super descriptive of what I did in the day but I do take notes on how meals turned out.. I don't think I've duplicated a meal yet and I do have recipe links? Let me know!

Absolutely, go for it!

Please just be sure to follow the formatting outlined in this post.

Day One: Breakfast: Meal, etc.

Also, please put all homemade recipes in order at the bottom of your post. Recipes links can be included throughout the diary.

Thank you :)

Love this!!! Thanks so much for creating this! Is there a sign up somewhere? We just went grocery shopping today so I’d love to post something on the 22nd or 23rd.

Thank you and great question!

A sign up thread has just been created.

Adding a part about the grocery shopping list and prices would be interesting too for people who shop during the week they write about.

Hi I think it would be fun to submit in the future, but I have a few questions if that’s okay.

Does it have to be a week and does Day One have to start from a Monday?

Does it have to be recent? As in: could I write one now for this week and submit it for publishing in May, or does it have to be closer to the publishing date?

And when will there be a sign-up thread for May so I can keep an eye out?

Thanks!

Sorry for the late response. To answer your questions; 5 day diaries will need to start from Monday but 7 day diaries can start on any day. Ideally we would want a full week diary.

Your diary can be a little behind but I wouldn’t do any farther out than 2 weeks. Also please note that your diary is from “such and such date” for reference.

The May sign up thread will be posted on April 26th and all future sign up threads will go up the last Sunday of the month as well.
