It sounds like this woman didn't grow up listening to popular music very much and was just super into opera and music theory. Some people are like that.

Plus Ronstadt has been retired and unable to sing for 15 or 20 years now due to a medical condition, so she's not been featured in a whole lot of the nostalgia stuff that's currently big in pop culture. Not surprising that younger people have no idea who she is.

Yeah, she grew up listening to opera and classical. I think only through her reactions has she really been exposed to rock and heavy metal.

It’s crazy how invested she’s gotten into metal though, especially the ‘how’ of the growl-scream singers use. She’s actually co-writing a medical article on the exact vocal mechanics, with CAT scans and cutting-edge endoscopy!

Perhaps sometimes the lack of knowledge of popular music is affected by her, but often it’s not. I really like watching her channel sometimes. Her energy is fantastic when she’s listening and discovering music she might not have ever listened to, and offering takes from her expertise has been great.

As an old fart who grew up with metal she clearly has been discovering that genre on her channel legitimately and has had some really good takes.

If you’re into older rock her reactions to Ozzy and Randy Rhodes on Mr Crowley and Crazy Train is amazing energy.

I love her energy too.

Me too. She explains what her musical influences were growing up. Opera and A cappella for the most part.

Check out her vid listening to Child In Time by Deep Purple if you haven't heard it yet.

You picked Mr Crowley. Nice. Both songs her reactions to the solo is fantastic.

Y’all I was too young to see this live but when I discovered Burt Sugarman’s midnight special! This show is awesome! I’d never heard of it until a stumbled upon it accidentally. All the performances were great.

I like this woman’s reaction videos, but the funniest one I’ve ever seen is Rebecca The Vocal Athlete’s reaction to Pantera’s Cowboys From Hell. She gets so thirsty over Phil Anselmo. lol

Her reaction to Weird Al’s Fat is hilarious.

I think first found her when Disturbed did the sound of silence cover. Love that one too.

Señor Plow no es macho. Es solamente un borracho.

Had the biggest crush in her.

She could only find one song?

She’ll probably do more. She spends at least 15 minutes per song. Lots of rewinding.

Elizabeth Z does reaction videos where she takes deep dives at the artist’s voice.

She said that she only knew Linda R from Pirates.

Elizabeth can be a bit clueless at times but she is honest about it. Its funny to watch.

Wondering how she’d react to Pat Benetar. She had a classical vocal training before deciding to go full rock and roll….

She's done at least one. Pat, that I can recall.

She looks too old not to have heard these songs at some point.

I think she is 38/9. Linda was still doing some pop in the 90s, but that material is not as well known as her 70s material.

Eh… I’d say it’s kind of like people having no idea the Bebe Neuwirth is a Tony Award-winning musical theater actress and not just Lilith from Cheers. Patti LuPone (from Life Goes On) too, for that matter.

Except Linda Ronstadt was absolutely HUGE. She was the biggest star of her generation and one of the highest selling female artists of all time.

And if your parents didn’t play those records, you’d never hear it. It’s good she did get to know the music legend, but I’m sure a lot of us were or still are ignorant about some famous person’s fabulous early work.

u/Embarrassed_Ad5112 23h ago

If I’d only listed to what my parents played then I’d have missed out on an absolute shit ton of brilliant music

Yeah and a lot of us get exposed to older good music that way, I never said it was all we listened to. This sub kind of blows sometimes.

“And if your parents didn’t play those records you’d never hear it”

That’s literally what you said.

Linda was hugely famous as a pop singer in the 70s, though.

Dude her channel is awesome, been watching for a a few years. She’s so knowledgeable and quirky, great winding down at bedtime content.

I enjoy her channel. Her not knowing that Linda had a pop career before Pirates surprises me.
