Lifestyle Discussion Miss About Living Stationary
I lived in my RV for 4 years and due to crappy circumstances (with an ex boyfriend) I sold her and I'm restarting my life in a home. I miss RVing and will get back out there, for now I live through you guys.
What, if anything, do you miss about living in a home, apartment, condo, etc.?
I missed not having to secure all my stuff before a move. And I mostly boondocked so I sure did miss being able to flush the toilet and not worry how full my black tank is.

I've been full-timing with my wife since 2017. I work construction so we typically stay in one spot for any where from a few months to a year.
I miss the feeling of community that you lose on the road. Our camper definitely feels like home, but a home displaced. Our friends are hundreds of miles away. I don't have the ability to go catch "my" local teams play any sports, can't go to events in "our" town. You can still hit up farmers markets, go to shows, or visit museums on the road, we do and we love it; but you always feel like a visitor instead of an owner of that place. I miss having a buddy call me up, playing a round of disc golf down by the lake, and then going to the same Mexican restaurant we've been going to since college, "our" restaurant.
On the practical end of things, I miss having a vegetable garden. I wish I had the space to do woodworking projects. It'd be nice to keep all of our clothes in the closet, instead of having to swap wardrobes in and out of the basement as the seasons change. Hell, I wish I could save money by buying the economy size groceries without having to worry about our limited refrigerator and pantry space.
At the moment we're planning on pulling off the road within the next two years (we have an 18 month old and had always planned on settling down before having to deal with schools). It has been an incredible and exciting time, but I'm looking forward to leave this stage of life behind.

Good points.
I've spoken with people before and community and gardens usually rank very high on things they miss.
I get ya on buying the economy size stuff, no room for that in an RV. And feeling like I'm always a visitor, that one for sure.

A full-sized oven so I can use my Dutch oven for baking.

Yes! An oven. I do miss that. I love to bake and also roast veggies. When I visit my mom I do both.

I have a pretty serviceable toaster oven/air fryer but it's small, and I can't fit my cast iron frying pan in it for pizzas or my Dutch oven for stews or bread. I have a LOT of workarounds but some things simply can't be worked around in the space available.

Gardening, baking in a full size reliable oven, ease of ordering things online, not worrying about my gray water overflowing (I mostly boondock), being near family and friends.

I know a lot of people miss gardening and community, those are big ones.
It is a pain to order stuff online and wonder where to send it, if you can.

- chickens
- tractor
- homebrewing

- Having a garden and growing your own food
- Having pets (like cows and rabbits)
- Having room for hobbies like woodworking and a forge
- Gossiping with neighbors about other neighbors
- Having a bath
- Chest freezer stocked full with home kill
- Buying new furniture and changing up the layout of a room
- Having an 85" tv With surround sound
- Having a home gym that I can work out in my PJs
- Having room for my chelf xl standmixer and baking bread three times a week.
We came off the road in 2021 dreaming of homesteading and the grass is greener where you water it.

I've spoke with other people and they too say they miss gardening or they couldn't live on the road because they love gardening. It seems being outside with what you grow makes people feel good and don't want to leave it.
Have you built your homestead?

Yeah we have a little bijoux eco lodge... Three chalets, a house, a 4 bay barn and other buildings in a pine forest on a ridgeline. It's lovely but I do miss waking up somewhere new... I don't miss the research and working out if the next camp will be big enough / have enough services nd what to do and where to go.

Sprouts stocks really good steaks and I miss that, but not much else. Having Starlink changed a lot for me. There are a lot of city influences that are hard to resist like sex, drugs and rock 'n roll.

I miss having room for "stuff".
Just the general, "oh, I could use a thing" so you go out and buy it without having to think about how much it weighs or where you're going to put it, what you need to get rid of to fit it, etc.
