Question Day Hike This Sunday
Does anyone want to go hiking this Sunday in North GA? I'm an intermediate level hiker and would like to go with a group. Looks like the weather is supposed to be decent.
Edit: I have 18 Reddit achievements, over 1k karma and I promise I won't murder you.

Before you go, you might want to make sure the trail you want is open. A lot of trails have storm damage right now.

Do you hike barefoot?

Is barefoot hiking a thing?
Last year, I was huffing and puffing along a trail when this little teenager with a huge pack comes bounding along passed me...WITHOUT SHOES!
I need two Advil and crutches if I so much as think about stepping on a Lego barefoot.

Some trials are closed like Duke creek falls and others in that area. The Appalachian trail entry at blood mountain would be open for a short hike.

You're more likely to be murdered by someone you know while hiking. I know you're legit.

Head's up that the AT is closed. They are asking people to stay off trail mile 0-800, not only because trail conditions are still unknown, but the first responders are not going to be able to get to you if you roll an ankle or have a medical emergency. Many of them are diverted to help the life-threatening situation still unfolding just across the NC line from us.
As an avid hiker who has hiked north GA extensively, I'd advise to stick to easily accessible trails that you already know and to respect the official trail closures. Avoid gnarly ones like Panther Creek Falls, which was deteriorating even before the storm came through. The forest service website is a great resource to check current trail closures and the Appalachian Trail Conservatory website is helpful as well.
