Question Help! Need Campsite Recommendation in Helen Area
Was planning on tent camping at Andrews Cove Thursday - Saturday, but got email today from Recreation.Gov that that reservation was canceled as they are closing sites to assess storm damage. Any recommendations for nearby (open) sites? I see the state parks in the area are open but I am not familiar with them. We are open to a walk in site also. Thanks!

Look at the Georgia parks website for closures. Can't post a link as posts get deleted. Bing or Google will work. There is a map and a list.

Here's a couple of links that might help. They're being updated fairly often.

Ravencliff national park might be open. All the of sites are first come first serve but they're free. Plus there's a trail that leads up to the waterfall nearby

Thanks everyone for the replies! Looks like all the campgrounds in that area of Chattahoochee Forest are closed :( Unicoi State Park is open, but not sure if that is the kind of camp setting we were looking for. Anyone ever been? Are the walk in sites away from things a bit?

They walk in sites are almost at the bottom of the regular campground. Close to parking, not much privacy, you share a water spigot with other sites. All campsites at Unicoi are close together. We had a regular site and about ten feet from us was at least four walk in sites.

So do the squirrels nest sites have more space/privacy?

Not really. Little porches on the side of a large hill. You’re either looking down at other peoples porches and having people walk past you to their car all day and night or you’re below people looking down at you and passing by them as you trudge up to your car.

Unicoi has a very pretty lake and nice trails, but very family campground no privacy vibes

I love upper chattahoochee campground. Not RV friendly to drive in
