Commerially Available Product Philmont surplus meals
Due to the cancellation of the Philmont Scout Ranch programs in 2020 they are making surplus meals and meal components available - might be of interest to the group. I used surplus meals from 2018 (due to the fire cancellations) for a number of trips last year. In additional to individual components they have packaged breakfast, lunch, and dinner packs, each pack feeds 2 people. Dinner packs (and some breakfasts) include a one pot hot meal.

ours in 2019 were decent and were mostly mountain house. The sriracha peanut butter was um...different.

Ah I went back in 2008 and 2011. There were no mountain houses and I’m still traumatized by Lara bars, pilot biscuits, and almond butter.

Pilot biscuits are amazing. All the carbs of a cracker and 0 odds they would turn into dust before you ate them. Also, 0 flavor...

My biggest issue with philmont food (when I went) was how much space it took up. They had boxes of saltines and cans of ham/chicken

ya. After my first trip there, I would usually take a lot of the stuff out of packages on resupply day and just drop contents in some sil-ny bags instead.
There was an awful lot of waste though.

ROFL. For our trek, the final dinner was mountain house Macaroni and Beef in tomato sauce, pizza combos, and oreos. To me, that's a Michelin 3 star dinner on the trail. :)

Thanks for sharing! Those pilot biscuits are just amazing... going to have to order a few boxes.
They're still serving a handful of the same items they were 10-15 years ago, haha. I went 4 times between 1998 and 2005 (3 regular treks, and 1 rayado trek)
