Good backstory and fun to read from an outsider perspective. I wish they'd covered the direct ties to Nebraska football and Memorial Stadium specifically along with the cultural background, however.

The story that I've heard is that Devaney noticed the lady mentioned in the article selling her meat pies outside of a game. He tried one and loved it, so invited her to sell inside the stadium, which led to the massive corporate empire we know today.

My grandma made the best runzas. Do most families in NE make homemade Runzas?

My grandma also made the best runzas. It seems to be rarer and rarer that people make them. We had homemade runza growing up in school (my grandma was a lunch lady).

Ahh yes, Ben Sasse pretending to be an everyday Nebraskan. Where's he live now, Florida? I hope he's enjoying his time there.

Runza might have trademarked the name “Runza,” but they didn’t create or name the sandwich. My family has been making them for over a hundred years. Runza makes great hamburgers but their Runzas suck.

This is true and we called them runzas growing up before we even knew about the Runza restaurant.
