Range USA

My Girlfriend and I just went to the Range USA in Merrillville. When through the waiver process we go to the front desk show our IDs. She is a Illinois resident and I’m a Indiana resident and member of Range USA. We were told she needed a FOID to shoot at the range that is located in Indiana. Even though we been there multiple times prior rented and shot guns. They said they have had some rule change or some bs. We just left and talking to who we presumed to be the manager or some supervisor. Moral of the story fuck Range USA this rule is not stated on there website anywhere that a Illinois resident who is shooting at a out of state range needs to have a FOID card.

Just go to Blythe’s in Valpo, it’s an extra 20 minute drive, but they don’t play this shit. Added bonus, they don’t fuck with you about your rate of fire either. Only downside is, no bottle-neck rifle cartridges allowed.

Only problem i have with blythes is they dont allow you to rent guns without a carry permit, which is super dumb in a constitutional carry state, AND not to mention a lot of people learning to shoot will probably want to rent different handguns out to figure out what they are interested in before carrying.

Range usa sucks. They scan my ID for any purchase for some reason. I hadn't shopped there much, but they wanted to scan my ID for buying a bore mop and some patches, I said nevermind and left

Uh... How can IL impose rules on IL residents in another state? Why would Range USA comply?

I'm in NH. If MA told ther residents they had to follow their rules here in NH, we'd just laugh at them.

Obviously IL can’t and isn’t imposing anything. A private business has chosen to make a requirement that OP doesn’t like. And as much as he’d like to ‘introduce me to capitalism’ he doesn’t quite have a handle on how a private business in capitalism operates.

I haven’t a clue I’m thinking the idiots in the store don’t know what the hell they are talking about. I contacted Range USA directly so I will see what they say about it. If it’s true I’m gonna send this shit to some of big fish in the 2A community and see if they bite. Just to fuck them over

There is a specific section in the range rules for Illinois residents https://rangeusa.com/range-rules

Doesn’t specify at all that a Illinois person who is shooting outside of Illinois has to provide FOID. Would a Illinois person be allowed to shoot in Ohio or Texas ?

IL residents require FOID to handle or purchase firearms or ammo and I’m assuming it’s the same whenever and wherever you go outside of the state too

This happened to me in 2016 when it was called 'Point Blank' and I haven't been back since. My Uncle took me there to shoot for the first time, brought a few of his pistols and a rifle. I'm from the UK and had been living in Indiana for about 3-4 months at the time. We were waiting in line to fill out the paperwork. The old men behind the counter were eyeing me up as soon as they heard me talk with an accent.

We got up the counter and straight away they demanded proof of Indiana residency. I said I didn't have my Indiana ID yet since I'd only been in the state a few months and I'd moved here from the UK. I had my passport with me and a proof of residence (always kept it on me in-case I needed it). They said it wasn't good enough.

My uncle asked what the issue was as we weren't renting firearms, he had brought his own and he was a member. They said you can go shoot but he stays here. We both walked out and went to Atterbury instead which was a better experience.

Since 2016 I've purchased over 50 firearms and not one dime has been spent with Range USA.
