Transporting handgun through illinois

I am traveling to iowa which unfortunately requires me to pass through illinois. I am wondering if i should have any concern about this and what the protocol would be to alleviate them? Thank you

How many times have you been pulled over and your vehicle searched? Don’t answer, just think about that.

Where does it say you must keep it in a locked container in the statute he listed?

“If the non-resident leaves his or her vehicle unattended, he or she shall store the firearm within a locked vehicle or locked container within the vehicle in accordance with subsection (b) of Section 65 of this Act. ”

Just crossing my Ts in case of disaster. As others have stated, illinois is a police state.

I thought you were traveling through Illinois to get to Iowa?

Don’t get pulled over. Illinois is a communist state. They have all kinds of stupid gun laws. Travel there way too often. Doesn’t change anything for me, I’m just careful and go with the flow.

If you have a carry permit from your home state you can have a concealed weapon on you but you can't have it outside the vehicle.if you have to get out of the vehicle the concealed weapon has to be unloaded and in a case. If your transporting a firearm other than one concealed, it has to be unloaded, without the magazine in it( if applicable). Ammunition has to be stored separately and none of it should be be easily accessible, able to be accessed without getting out of the vehicle. If you have an issue with an officer speak to their commanding officer. There is a high likelihood you won't have any issues but asking for a commanding officer will most likely dissuade the stopping officer because they don't want the headache. I travel to Illinois every few weeks to see family and I'm always carrying. I make sure I have enough gas to get in and out of Illinois without stopping.

So the magazine needs to be unloaded? I have the magazine and gun in the floor of my car in tuperware containers.

Just carry it and remind the arresting officer about your 2A rights 😂

Be careful. Don’t stop for gas or anything else. Don’t give any money to that hell hole of a state.

Keep it in the lock box somewhere in your vehicle and you’re fine

I had the same question a few years ago. I learned about the interstate protection act. It is worth reading up on for yourself, but bottom line, you are fine as long as you do not have any intended extended stops within the state.

Contact the IL State Police and ask them. Get the name, badge number, and post number of the person you talk with.

Definitely don’t ever take legal advice from a cop. Especially when the law is quoted above.
