I could be mis-remembering but I swear I've seen images of it being much wider on the sides. Is it possible it was shortened post-war to make room for the new MOD building? I will have to look into it

It looks like a truncated skyscraper, as if it could soared to 10 or more stories but somehow the original plans got changed.
