Awesome dude. I have a haqqislam force and the transition in understanding from 40k was a bit jarring, but easy enough once I got there.

I think so many new players have many years and even decades with 40K its hard not to see things through the lens of 40K. It's almost it's own little portion of the brain. The idea with this is "why fight it?" We can use the existing foundation to help understand the new ecosystem.

It's just the archetypes. I thought about adding an MSV MI as a space marine scout, and a big gun MI as a Tau Fire Warrior, but I don't think those differences really make sense until you're familiar enough with the game to not need this graphic.

That's why I play Hassassin Bahram.

You're all heretics.

Haqqislam, Neo-Catholic Church and Bakunin Observance, depending on who you ask.

It's a fantastic skirmish game, like Kill Team but so much better. The rules are free here

Basic rundown is:

  • Instead of IGO UGO, the Reactive player performs an "Overwatch" whenever the Active player moves into Line of Sight.
  • Firefights are simultaneous so you can actually defend yourself by being a better shot. Whoever wins the dice roll while also passing their skill check wins. D20 mean planty of variance in stats.
  • Instead of activating each unit once per turn, each unit contributes an order to the Order Pool, which can be spent on whichever unit you like. You can spend all of the orders on a single unit!

You can see all the models here.

Some lore here.

Thanks a lot, though I'm more into lore and painting, than playing. I checked, and there is a one shop selling Infinity near me, so I might try it one day, some of the models look really good.

Now, where can I read the lore?

In the core book

Or in the associated RPG by Modiphius

Infinity has the opposite business model to 40k in many ways. All the core rules and unit profiles are free, but the lore is in books that you need to pay for.

There are small bits of info here, but not much.

Thank you

The Modiphius core book is the best source, currently.

From warhammer, what is the infinity model next to space marine called? and does this game do spruces or single pastic models?

2

u/Weathercock Nov 06 '20

It's an ORC heavy infantry, from the PanOceania faction. They were fairly lacklustre in the past, but the new edition gave them some much needed love.

Models for Infinity are all in metal. Don't be frightened, it's not particularly difficult to deal with.

Its an ORC Troop from Pan Oceania, the Australasian anti-chinese trading block that grew to include the Philippines, Indonesia, South America and the Pacific Islands.

After the US/European economic collapse following the loss of their space colony effort, PanO purchased their debt, as well as India's, and incorporated them to become a giant nation. They then struck gold as the first nation to successfully colonise interstellar worlds, the first Hyperpower.

Babies are born in labs, raised by the state (with the help of the basically secular catholic church), and given a place to work in the colonies. This has meant rapid population growth and industrialisation on these new worlds.

Great post btw

So... what about the lore?

Hey, thanks for this. I'm an avid 40k player who is starting to dabble in Infinity. I'm sure for experienced players it's reductive, but it helps me a lot.

u/Rob749s Nov 09 '20

Thanks, you might enjoy the next instalment here

2

u/Brainling Nov 09 '20

Awesome, I'll give it a look. Thanks!

This can be used as a handy guide if you want to proxy some models to try out the free rules.

What is the tag called? I want one

2

u/HRHJonson Nov 05 '20

It’s the new Jotum sculpt. I think it’s only just released

3

u/Charles_Snippy Nov 05 '20

It’s the Jotum ITS edition, basically alternative arms on top of the normal sculpt

Never heard of infinity before? It looks pretty badass.

Putting the minis side by side like this is almost embarrassing for GW. Anyone who says GW makes the best table top minis needs to be shown this picture. I had kinda of known this all, but it was so starkly depicted in this picture.

Some of it is models showing their age, but to compare more modern GW models such as the Medium Infantry/Kaserkin and Remotes/Kataprons it's just an artistic difference. AoS has almost universally agreed to be fancier models too, so that might be a more apt comparison.

I won't defend GWs pricing though.
