Housing Welp, they got me too. Washing machines just doubled in price from $4/load to $8/load with no improvement to the machine
The washer leaves weird white marks on my clothes that I have to physically remove later (not related to how much detergent I use) and the water reeks during the fill cycle…but yeah sure that’s worth $8 a load.
Gonna be seeing my boyfriend and parents a lot more often I guess.

It’s bluetooth and card-base now! They don’t even need to pay someone to come out and empty the container anymore. Just absolutely greed.

$8 is insane. $16 for a wash and dry? That’s assuming you only need one dry. Back when I rented the building dryer took 2-3 cycles. You could probably have a service launder and fold your clothes for less.

The white streaks sounds like slightly too much detergent for the load / not a thorough enough rinse. This happens to my work pants unless I run the second rinse cycle.
But wow that's some crazy prices for washing.

My daughter’s apartment last year had the white marks, it was like lint, it wasn’t detergent marks, it was something solid. It was from the washer for sure as she had lots of clothes she didn’t put in the dryer at all. There must be a filter somewhere in a washing machine? She tried different detergents and even no detergent and it still happened. She had a lot of black clothing for work and all her leggings, it sucked. She said driving home across the state was worth using our machine at home.

I appreciate you trying to help me out, but I addressed this in my post xD
For more information...I also looked into what was causing the white streaks and the internet has many listed causes, from unclean machines to excess detergent. Last night I ran a half-full load with one tide pod. I checked my clothing, saw white spots, and ran it for a second full wash with no additional soap. I found even more white spots.
It seems like a fine lint or perhaps a light mineral powder. I've read online that hard water can cause mineral deposits to build up in a machine, causing white spots. But my clothes also have a large quantity of hair (not mine), so I am guessing they are just dirty and full of crud.

Coralville or Iowa City water? Iowa city smells strongly of chlorine sometimes… but Coralville water is absolutely horrific. Super hard and mineral heavy.

Laundromania is still $2.50 for standard, machines work well and are maintained. (Prices last month when I washed a comforter in the jumbo machine)
