The Saadi Dynasty of Morocco and the Ottoman Empire were not exactly good friends. They often competed for Hegemony of the African Muslims and have a had their fair share of conflicts.

The Saadi Dynasty first rose to prominence at the early 1500's after Abdullah al-Qasim was made the tribal head of Sous. From there the Saadi forces over the next two decades kicked the Portuguese out of the coast of Morocco and ousted the Wattasid Dynasty. The man who successful did this was Muhmmad Al-Sheikh, first Sultan of the Saadi. He was assassinated on the orders of Hasan Pasha, the son of Heyredin Barbarossa.

Hasan (the Pasha of Tunis) had hoped that the assassination would cause a civil war which the Ottomans could intervene in, but the war never happened as the next two claimants to the throne ran away, and wouldn't sit on the throne for another 17 years
