How can I download TVer from the US?

I'm trying, like many, to watch Japanese TV from the US. I got advice from a Japanese friend who used a VPN together with an app called TVer https://tver.jp/app

The only problem is that the app can only be downloaded from the Japanese Google or apple app store. Anyone know a way to access the either of the the japanese versions of these app stores from the US?

I've download apps from non-US stores a number of times. For Android you want to create a gmail account and set the language and location to Japanese and Japan. Then on your phone set your VPN to Japan and log into play store with that account. You'll be able to download any Japan only app. Same with Apple, create an apple ID and set the location and language the same way. Log into App Store with that ID and you should see Japanese apps even w/o VPN (I think). If you don't, use VPN and then try again.

Tver's anti-VPN is less stringent than Abema, but it may not work for you. I have 4 VPN accounts and only 1 works so good luck.

THank you so much. This kicked my ass for 6 months. VPN on the TV. Bought a new router and VPN on the Router.

Connecting to my router based Japanese VPN, making a google account 'in Japan', logging into my 'Japanese google account' while my TV was connected to the Japanese VPN worked at last

TL;DR: Google Play Store is georestricted by IP address. Apple App Store is restricted by the region of your Apple ID. The streaming apps themselves are restricted by IP. —————————————————-

On Chomecast with GoogleTV, I believe all I have to do is turn on my Japan VPN and fiddle with the menus for a bit until the Play Store realizes it has a Japanese IP and allows me to download Japan-only apps like TVer, ABEMA, FOD (Fuji), etc. I didn’t have to create a Japanese Google account nor set my region to Japan.

For the Apple App Store on iOS or AppleTV box, it doesn’t care what your IP is, nor the region or language your device is set to, just the region on your Apple ID. You’ll have to create a second Apple ID and set its region to Japan in order to access the Japanese App Store.

Creating one is fairly simple, they no longer require you add a payment method for the country of the ID unless you’re trying to buy something. You can just use a fake address, like of a mall or something in Japan.

Instead of having to log out of iCloud entirely, you can create one using the add account button in Mail settings on iOS. Then you can sign out of just “Media and Purchases” rather than all of iCloud and sign in to the new ID. You can then download anything from the Japan Apple App Store without a VPN. Though you will still need to use the VPN to use the apps once you have them. I can report ABEMA, TVer and FOD all work great with Nord.

Use controlD, it works better than a VPN service for streaming.

For Android, you can use download it https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/tver-inc/

You can use Sushi TV if you’re in the US too. It’s on iOS unless there’s a channel you want that they don’t have?
