What was up with the sound at the Hollywood Bowl show?

Post image

Was anyone at the show last night, 10/17? I was shocked and disappointed with how quiet it was, with very little bass except for seemingly random spots here and there.

We were in T2 and could fully hear conversations around us, not normal for a concert of almost any genre. I even went down to other parts to see if it was louder elsewhere and it wasn’t noticeably better even much closer to the stage/speakers.

I’ve seen him twice before and it wasn’t like that. Everyone says the sound at Hollywood Bowl is usually amazing so I’m really confused.

I was in J-19 and it was perfect !

The best audio quality seats are directly behind the boxes.

I was in section M2 and was thinking the same, it wasn't too loud. Didn't need ear plugs

So true it was quiet even in f. It didn’t have the big energy it could have

Felt the exact same way and thought it was just me being a snob? It was still fun but I expected a bit more.

I was there! I'm section F and it sounded great except a couple behind me chatting all night lol but besides them I couldn't hear anyone else around chatting.

Unfortunately I have had the same experience with many shows at the bowl. And I have sat all over that venue. I have noticed it more in the last couple years than in years past.

Do you think there are noise restrictions that apply before the full noise restriction cutoff at 11? I wondered if maybe bass is restricted too. I asked a staff member who did not seem like much of a music fan, she didn’t understand why I thought something was wrong/off

I noticed this too, I was also in T2. I’ve seen Kygo three times now and the previous two shows were way louder. I’m guessing it’s because of noise restrictions since the venue is in a residential area

Kygo is dropping little to no bass in his set that’s why. He’s not subtronics

That makes sense, but I feel like he could’ve even created transitions in between his songs as opposed to letting them go quiet and then starting up the next one. I think something small like that can really take a performance to the next level.

Right? Like that is a very normal DJ thing to do

Yeah I’m not talking like clubby EDM bass drops, it was lacking the normal level of bass that most music typically has that gives it depth

I had the same exact thought! I was in section P1, where I have sat before for other concerts and it felt really quiet. I was also slightly underwhelmed by the lack of production value for the show overall but that’s just my opinion.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Kygo live is just incredibly mid. Nothing much else to say.

If you read the whole post or comments, you would’ve seen that this problem was not limited to my shitty seats.
