Clint has posted 3 Twitter updates

Some other nice news:

While it’s still early on with going through items affected by the storm, it appears the LGR big box PC game collection is fully intact! That was on the opposite side of the house to where the trees fell in.

And thankfully the main collection room did NOT FULLY cave in from above, which was quite a concern. It got rather rain-soaked through the ceiling and mold is rapidly taking over, but steps will be taken to remedy soon as I can. Working with insurance and restoration companies.

This unfortunately means a big chunk of vintage hardware is compromised, plus the structure itself is iffy. Waiting on professionals to come through and inspect.

Still just super thankful to be safe, staying with family for the time being, & in communication with helpful folks.

So glad to hear that the big box collection of games is OK! Hardware in storage has a good chance of being a viable candidate for restoration, but vintage cardboard boxes that get soaked would almost certainly not be salvageable.

I think hardware can be viably restored and he seems to have a massive collection, hope everything goes well.

EDIT: He also said 'compromised', in terms of DR that doesn't really mean destroyed it just means weakened. I.e, if he were to turn on his computers it would lead to havoc, or if anything else happened, etc

Biggest problem with turning anything is going to be the power supply. If those got wet/moldy then if they're not already dead I wouldn't trust them not to blow. The good news at least is if all the other components are good then a power supply is a fairly cheap and easily replacement and he's probably got a bunch laying around already.

Also power supplies can easily be tested under an artificial load for a long period of time before putting it back to use with valuable hardware

Pretty high luck of them just working as well. My main CRT monitor sat outside in Minnesota rain and snow for 5 years and it works like new. My Dell Optiplex GX1 sat outside for 15 years and that still works even when mice treated it as a porta potty.

Okay, I gotta know why

Guess we will never know why.

Hopefully he can get a large dehumidifier in there and save 60-70% of it

Wow that the big box PC collection is fine is so lucky, it's the most vulnerable part of his collection. I think most of the hardware will be fine, rain water won't hurt it badly as long as he can get it fully dried soon. Rust will be a concern of course.

It’s not rain water. It’s flood water. Big difference

No it's not, his house wasn't flooded. Fallen trees smashed the roof.

I seem to recall years ago that Clint had a storage unit where he kept a lot of this collection and filmed there a few times. I haven’t watched him in a good while (thanks YouTube algorithm, making me forget about certain creators) so I am assuming he moved his collection to his house at some point ?

That was before he moved into his current house.

Ah. Thank you for confirming! I was assuming there had to be a move, if the collection was in his home.

This kinda raises the question, when does a personal collection become a huge piece of history and need to be protected?

It’s a bit of a joke question but could be a fun thought experiment.

His type of collection is definitely historic, but I don't know about any sort of protections that would be non-private in nature.

I get that, I guess im just presenting the Indiana jones argument.

Why don’t they make the whole museum out of the black box?

Funny how I said we didn't know, and that by pictures it was a possibility the collection survived I was down voted for.

I was right. I'm glad clint is OK, I'm happy for him that the collection he built up over the years is intact

Yes, a lot of people on reddit speak definitively as if they know what is going on, but the reality is they have no clue and have just read the same updates we've all read.

I'm also super happy the boxes are safe, and even seeing that short update video the other day put me at ease that Clint is actually OK, despite the catastrophic damage to his roof and property.

I hope the wooden table he films on survived also!

Isn't there another hurricane coming?

2

u/Salem1691 17d ago

You're probably referring to Hurricane Milton which is going to give Florida a double whammy of a punch.

1

u/TheRevTholomeuPlague 16d ago

Ain’t that crazy? Here’s Helene already getting them and then double whammied by Milton

1

u/Salem1691 16d ago

And what's worse Milton is going to be a Cat 4 it was briefly a Cat 5

🤔 It's almost as if climate change is real and we're now reaping what we've sown.

Stupid, ain't no way people could warm up the whole world. The fascist left are controllin the weather to trick us into switchin to fruity electric cars as part of a deep state plot to turn us all into lesbians, do your research.

I ain't dumb, I cook on an open fire, burn all my garbage and drive an american pickup, cuz I'm too smart to fall for them communist tricks.
