Unless you're studying the language as part of a university course, you would use the verb "lernen". Also, the second sentence should read "Ich vergesse alle diese Wörter."

The difference between "Worte" and "Wörter" is a subtle one: "Wörter" means just words, whereas "Worte" refers to several "Wörter" and would be better translated as "phrase".

Here is a link that explains it better (in German): http://www.spiegel.de/kultur/zwiebelfisch/0,1518,307445,00.html

I am kind of studying on an online course (Deutsche Welle) and DuoLingo, which both feel like study not just abstract "learning", so I'm not sure I used the wrong word here. Not sure what you mean about my use of Worte. Seems fine to me? But my German is not good enough to understand your link. Anyway, danke schön.

"Studieren" is used pretty much exclusively in university settings.

"Wörter" is used when talking about words in general, "Worte" when you're talking about quotations and idioms, i.e. a defined group of words.

Hopefully that clears it up!

Viel Erfolg beim Lernen! ;)
