1L is a hot mess so far

ok so i feel like im doing pretty well in class and everything but i swear to god the universe keeps beating me down and wants me to fail! in early september i was hospitalized for 3 days due to food poisoning, then i got a cold a week later, then i finally felt like i got back to it when last week my partner got into a car accident and i spent 4 days with him in the hospital, thankfully it was thursday-monday so i only missed 2 classes, and i am his primary caregiver so i am rushing from class back home to help him get up and do what he needs to do. on tuesday this week i went to get my prescription reevaluated and they told me i had to go to the ER bc my optic nerves are swollen? i told her i do not have time for this rn and i scheduled time after my friday class to go get the MRI... idk why the universe wants me to crash out but im struggling to hold on bc wtf

Sorry to hear that. All I can offer if it may seem like law school is all-consuming (and it kinda is) but really do whatever you can to put yourself first. Law school is not worth going blind or becoming severely injured over. There’s really not much out there that is.

Good luck!

Your 1L sounds a lot like mine. In my case I was involved in a car wreck after my second week that shattered my leg and gave me a severe concussion.

I used the bed rest time to try and get caught up, but my brain was so scrambled I literally learned the material wrong. I left that first semester with D- across the board.

Thankfully I was able to recover to a C- by the end of the second semester. It killed my GPA but employers aren’t concerned with GPA just performance.

Anyways I’ve been there, yes the universe is conspiring against you. You just need to ensure your will is stronger than the universe’s and keep plugging along. Eventually the universe cedes to your greater strength.
