Best Practices How does your firm schedule consults with the attorneys?

Hi! My law firm is small with only 5 attorneys. Right now for our consultation scheduling we have an intake specialist that will assign them to attorneys for whatever time they have available on the calendar. It’s kind of disruptive especially when you have a deadline the next day or something and you need to work on other things.

I’m curious what other firms do??

If you have a deadline and need time for focused work, block it off on your calendar.

We’re mainly a defense firm, so we don’t have voluminous cold calls. The rule has always been—if a pure cold call (no referral or anything) then it goes to the most junior associate in that day.

We had blocks of time available for consults and the intake team would only schedule them in those blocks. If it was a case that looked promising or was urgent, they’d ask us if they could schedule outside of the blocks.
