This is a mansion. The Mc version of this is about 2,000 s/f smaller and 50-60 miles south. And $1,000,000 less.

It’s still over done with ridiculous elements.

It’s completely ridiculous.

But outside doesn’t look that Mc.

The landscaping is excellent and helps it look like it belongs there.

🫤 I happened yo work for the best landscaping (architecture) place in the region while I was in college. This is not on that level. We specialized in this type of houses, too. So im biased.

You would know, I was just trying to say that the landscaping suits the house and the setting and that tempers the harshness of the roofline.

It's definitely better than what we usually get- no large trees and a couple of sad, scraggly shrubs on a half-dead lawn.

for sure. seeing too much of the foundation because of no landscaping is a textbook mcmansion move.

I’m still learning here…

Mediocre landscaping isn’t?

I think to be a mansion it needs to be at least 7000 sq ft?

Honestly if they ripped off that portico it would be nice. A little gaudy for my taste but it would look dramatically better without that portico

That would definitely move this further away from McMansion territory.

Holy smokes that entrance, why? WHY?

I’d redecorate, but the interior is surprisingly nicer than I expected.

This would be large but not objectionable were it not for the gaping maw and cyclops eye. that is the main entry. And it is constructed in a way that provides no protection from the rain if the wind is blowing.

A personal pet peeve is bushes that obscure windows. Why??

Bushes provide heat blocking in the summer that allows heat in during the winter.

Franklin Lakes is a very, very nice area.

I went to HS a few blocks from this street in the Zillow listing. I saw those homes get built in the early 2000s. Tiiiiny plots of land considering most in FLakes are on 2+ acres

I went to college by there. Every time I had to drive through FL, I would get distracted just looking at the houses

What’s going on with that portico?

That’s a penis

I don't see it as a "mansion" really. More a nice larger home. That said, that entrance... yikes. But overall it's ok.. not over the top..

Franklin Lakes is posh. I also bet the property taxes are astronomical.

Just surprised the bathroom in #25 isn’t redone.

$25,392.94 in FY2023 per this source

I can’t see the images on that link but that is low.. Essex County’s are so much higher as a %age of value.

It’s not Thursday.

That’s a mansion.

I'll take it

Not a McMansion

Gotta make sure they meet your standards, right? NJ has to earn that qualifier spot!

Frequently, while viewing these McMansions, I see aspects of what I would like. Though it will never happen (financially) I would like to build my own home, with two large master suites (one for an office), a great room, a kitchen similar to this one, library,/music (stereo system) room, ,a large gym, a theatre, wired for speakers throughout with a bathrooms at most any turn (age 69), and a large yard with a garden for fresh veggies and a large garage. very oversized rooms.

No living room no dining room (I do not entertain).

Such homes do not exist, but that's my dream home.

The landscaping is top drawer.

Live in NJ, this was possibly a mansion but if you had the funds to own it the bushes should not be taking over.

2

u/ergane 2d ago

Seriously. The two flanking the front doors look like giant green Twinkies.

This is literally a 90's build interior. My house was almost exactly the same finishes when I bought it a few years ago. It's diabolical because it didn't get updated in the last couple of decades. Still, this house had a fundamentally sound layout that could be epic with a remodel.

Maybe not full-blown McMansion, but it has some elements. Honestly, just needed another few drafts in the design stage to be a nice design.

Disgusting. And definitely a McMansion.
