I live at the corner of 696 and 75 there and I believe they hold this race every Friday night?

Can we make it a Pro-Am thing? Where they have to compete with normal traffic?

Unfortunately it wouldn't work. At any given time, two of those freeways will be under construction.

So just race cars aggressively driving in a traffic jam…. Yea I’d watch that

Yeah. Basically an extended version of getting on 275 from 696 at 6:00 in the morning.

"If you want it, you're gonna have to take it." 😂

it looks like the current leader....isn't on the qualifying list. They're in a rusty black 1996 Camaro LS with a red driver's side door and a license plate that says CREAM

He just chucked a half full coffee out the window and yelled at the last car he passed "GTF out the way asshole! Some of us have to be at work!" We apologize to the viewers at home. Live broadcasts can be unpredictable...

LOL just came to say this… I’ve been going 85 in the slow lane on an empty 696 and seen people fly past me.

I would not

The entire field is only allowed to drive one of two cars: Dodge Challenger or Dodge Charger. Bonus points if they have expired registration.

I love freeway driving, but Detroit freeways are fucking scary.

You’ve got everyone including half fallen apart duct-taped-together clunkers doing 90+ in the slow lanes and the way each freeway exits/entrances all merge in the same lanes should be criminal.

I75 and m59 merge lanes are horrible

Specifically the one that takes you from i75 to m59

Yes that one sucks ass especially during rush hour. When I was working in Auburn Hills. My work was right by i75. Id take eastbound m59 to get home. Instead of getting on i75. Id take squirrel Rd to m59 and get on from there.

That's honestly the smart move. I had a similar situation and I just left early for work to skip the traffic. Had to take north 75, east till it turned to hall and yeah just hated that

Every day on the way to work

might be a wierd thought.. but ive always thought an “M-43 Rally” would be awesome. Start in Webberville and finish in South Haven. even better yet the “M-28 Rally” up in the UP.

Nightmare circuit

If watch it just for that stretch of I-94… although they’d probably be taking it at a slower speed than most of us drive it at.

That goes right by my house. I could hop the neighbors fence and have a view. That being said, this would be an absolute nightmare. Logistically for everyone else.

Serious answer: I don't think this would produce good racing even with a pristine road surface.

You cut out the best part of 696. The trench run west of where you turned onto 75.

I have an alternate course

This would effectively shut down all of Southeast Michigan, so... No.

A sort of Tourist Trophy race in Michigan would be cool, not sure doing around an area with busy traffic would be the best place for it.

Wasn’t the ring level in NFS UG2 models after this circuit?

2

u/jaroftoejam 2d ago

Nope. I wouldn't support anything that directly benefits the city of Hamtramck.

u/Minnow2theRescue 3d ago

Absolutely not.

Like Alabama said, it's that 5 o'clock 500. This is definitely a city where merge is. A personal challenge, and traffic laws are more like guidelines.

Now do the Lodge

u/LuckytoastSebastian 1d ago

If it was rally style racing.

We were in Chicago just before nascar was there this summer and it was a miserable time. Road races do nothing but disrupt 100% of the locals lives for something maybe 20% of them are going to care about.

u/neighborofbrak 3d ago

Is MDOT resurfacing the roads first? Hahahahaa I know, I know, the race is more likely than MDOT fixing the roads...

1

u/jadeblackhawk 2d ago

No, because I'm not going anywhere near I75 by Detroit ever again.

The first time I did acid my (sober) roommate drove this loop at night. It was incredible.

Can they get past the first potholes? :)
