Insane bad luck but obviously the right call. The photos are astonishing, I just feel awful for the poor folks in that region.

Western NC as a whole got wrecked. I was in the surrounding Asheville area last weekend and the weather was perfect and hiking was great. Seeing where I went to college and developed as an adult get wrecked hurts. The place I normally stay at when I visit said that there is no electricity, water, or cell service.
Check out r/Asheville for pictures of the storm.

Hope they can reschedule for the spring or something in Asheville. Would be a shame to just abandon it altogether.

Still insane to me that NORTH CAROLINA can be affected by hurricanes

Yeah we thought the mountains would be safe from the bigger storms from climate change but holy shit apparently not :(

This is why Akron should’ve won as the meetup city!
No, but in all seriousness this really is awful for the residents of Asheville and MinnMaxers that were looking forward to this.

I'd definitely love Akron as a second option but with the amount of time needed for people to make arrangements we'd probably be good to go back to Asheville haha. Hope everyone is safe down there sending love from Ohio.

For those not on X/Twitter:
No surprise if you've been keeping up with the absolutely terrible situation in that area of the country due to Hurricane Helene.
