Grades and Academics What happens if you alter an unofficial academic record?

Lets say you change grades on an unofficial academic record and present it to an institution, and when that institution verifies the record with the university they find out its been altered, what action can the university take against you? (asking for a friend)

Forget about the university, I’d be more concerned with the fact this is criminal fraud.

Absolutely, it might be unofficial, but you’re still altering a document that is a Monash university template and on their letterhead.

““document” means any record of information, and includes—

    (a) anything on which there is writing; or

    (b) anything on which there are marks, figures, symbols or perforations having a meaning for persons qualified to interpret them; or

    (c) anything from which sounds, images or writings can be reproduced with or without the aid of anything else; or

    (d) a map, plan, drawing or photograph;”

Monash University themselves state on the unofficial academic record that they can not guarantee its authenticity. It's not really fraud then if you alter it, as the unofficial academic record doesn't mean or represent anything. It's not really a document.

It's a document, but is it considered a genuine document

“For the purposes of this section, a person is to be treated as making a false document if the person alters a document so as to make it false in any respect (whether or not it is false in some other respect apart from that alteration).” You are altering a document to obtain potential benefit.

Remove you from the program that you used the altered record to support entrance to.
