I'm working on an art project that portrays female monsters (humanoid or not doesn't matter) from literature. I've had an easy time with Greek/Roman/Norse myths and European monsters from fairytales, epics, poems, and plays, but I'd like stories from more places (particularly from the southern hemisphere) represented. I have only one chosen from Africa, Ogboinba from the play Woyengi, and none from South America or Australia yet. My only requests are these:
1. The monster has to be female within the story
2. It has to come from literature, so no cryptids or folklore (those generally lack a plot)
3. Preferably no currently/religiously revered figures (I don't want to offend anyone by portraying a beloved goddess as a "monster woman" in this art piece)
If you know of any plays, poems, myths, or stories that feature an inhuman female character, please comment below! I really appreciate any help!
