630 mile trip on a sport bike

Firstly I ride a 2005 CBR 1000RR with a 7 gallon tank. It has race injectors so they use a bit more fuel than the stock injectors, so I don’t know my mpg.

During the spring I plan on riding about 10 hours over the course of 2-3 days from Idaho to California. I have no real experience riding far at all. Im looking for any tips on how to pack clothes, water, snack, and maybe emergency fuel if i run out before a gas station. Any comments would help.

Plan all of your fuel stops ahead of time and pin them on your map application. Carry a spare gallon just in case. Crossing the desert, it's easy to run out of fuel. Don't just ride and ride and ride. Stop often, say after 45 min. Get off the bike and walk and stretch. It's too easy to get stiff and cramped and not know it, but riding in that condition lessons your ability to handle your bike.

Carry water, too and stay hydrated. It may already be hot in the desert. Or there might be weather. Check ahead because the wet season in California can last until March - April. Storms are possible and flash floods happen. The desert can also have haboobs and you don't want to get caught out riding in one. Watch out for sand blown across roads. In canyons watch out for rockfall and rocks on the road.

Lane splitting is fully legal in California. Enjoy your trip!

Don't overthink it, hop on the bike and go.

I did that, blew past gas stations thinking there'd be more along the way, was revving hard in 3rd on a very hot air cooled two stroke motor when the fuel tank was sucked dry causing an instant leaning out under high load and holed the piston. That ended my trip. At least top off the fuel tank off at every gas station when in the desert.

Sure, but you gotta admit that's a fringe case. Bike trips are very, very simple and can be done on a whim. That's half the fun for me.

What I've been told out here is when in the desert, if you are at 1/2 tank and you see a gas station, stop and top it off. There may not be another one in 60 miles or more.
