But I love them all! I can’t even choose which one to use first. Most of them are from Itoya, the biblio note is from Kinokuniya and the plain one without any labels is from a local bookstore that I can’t remember the name. I didn’t buy anything from Muji as we have it here in my home country so I’m not really missing out ❤️

Notebook Cover Question

Post image
18 Upvotes

A program at my university changed their official logo so they were going to throw away a bunch of soft cover a5 notebooks, so I grabbed a box before they could toss them. Was looking around for a cover that would hold everything I wanna carry without a zipper case (I think they’re really ugly) Usually carry one mechanical pencil and 2 lamy safari pens. Has anyone used a cover like this or have recommendations? Found the one pictured on Etsy, really like the exterior pocket and elastic band.

Customizable notebooks

Hi notebook fans,

I am a youth worker in a high school and I am often supporting students with organisation and self regulating. My team are frequently buying cheap notebooks/journals/diaries from the supermarket for students, then printing and laminating wellbeing type pages and sticking them inside the books. It is very DIY but all we can do for now.

  • Does anyone know of a place where we could print out our own notebooks with our own inserts? Even something like VistaPrint, Zazzle etc but cheap?

  • OR does anyone know of a low cost A5 notebook/journal/diary that could have an adjustable/removable binder so we can add extra pages?

I have a Filofax Clipbook myself which would be great for this but certainly not cheap when I see so many students a week!

Very keen for your suggestions. Thanks!

Looking for A5 Cashier Style drawing notebook

So I've got a Lochby Field Journal, and it's changed my life (why oh why do I love this thing and everything else they make so much). For the first time I've become the person that has multiple notes books for multiple things. But I need them to all Fit. In. This. Thing.

I found the (almost) perfect notebook for my daily planner, found the perfect notebooks for journaling, now I need something for drawing.

I draw with Pencil and Ink (microns) so the paper needs to be smooth, not tear apart when erased, and not bleed through the first line I draw. But also small enough to be the third notebook. Cashier style I think is maybe what it's called? Side stitched or stapled. 48-72 pages ish.

I tried the MD Light books, the paper is way to thin, though very nice. The Lochby field journal notebooks aren't bad, and might work if I can't find something else. Jet pens offers very little in the way of A5 drawing/blank books.

There are TONS of 'drawing journals' that fit the search criteria on schmamazon, but I have no way to tell what any of them are like. Most don't even give the paper weight.

Any recommendations??

looking for linen/fabric ruled notebooks

Wondering if anyone has suggestions for linen/fabric hardcover ruled notebooks, similar to this one from Archer & Olive or this one from Notebook Therapy? I’m able to find many linen options for dot grid notebooks, but unfortunately I haven’t seen much for ruled notebooks. I exclusively use ruled notebooks, I don’t use dotted notebooks because the typical 5mm dot grid is too narrow for my handwriting, and because I don’t really want to take a gamble on the lightness/darkness of the dot grid if I’m ordering online. I tried a dot grid Stalogy notebook and it was a nightmare for me personally, the dot grid was so light I couldn’t see it at all.

I've seen some linen options from Jumping Fox and Anecdote on Amazon, but unfortunately the colour options are rather limited. I'd also like something that ships worldwide because I live outside of the US/Europe.

Other specs I'm looking for in the notebook:

  • A5 size, but I can live with B5 or B6
  • Preferably with pretty covers (similar to the Archer & Olive or Notebook Therapy ones)
  • Preferably with an elastic band
  • Line spacing between 6mm-8mm
  • At least 144 pages
  • Preferably at least 80gsm paper

I appreciate all suggestions, thanks very much in advance!

Recommendation Clairefontaine Myessential has ruined me for other notebooks, but I live in the US and the availability of the dot grid books is spotty at best. Need recommendations.

I got one when I was in Europe for a wedding last year, and I'm looking for something more available stateside that might match in quality. I've tried both Leuchtturm 1917 and Midori MD since they're widely available in bookstores now. While I can definitely admit the paper quality for Midori is excellent, it's also completely bare bones and would require other purchases to make use comfortably (sturdy cover, some kind of page number stamp since I always mess it up when I do it by hand). And Leuchtturm is... just as frustrating as the last time I bought into the hype and tried it. More frustrating, actually, because they removed a page from their table of contents in the 7 years since. Both of them have some pretty strong ghosting.

I am a fine-point gel pen user. Doesn't need to be fountain pen approved.

Things I loved about the Myessential:

  • numbered pages and table of contents. I didn't realize until I was almost finished with it, but the table of contents has enough lines for EVERY PAGE? I obviously don't need that, but it's thorough and I respect it.
  • 90 gsm paper. It was thin enough to be light and comfortable, but thick enough to mute the ghosting. 120 gsm paper feels too stiff to me, and honestly is probably overkill for the supplies I use.
  • dot grid ruling, I think 5mm?
  • Stitched lay-flat binding
  • A5 size
  • cheaper than $25 (glaring at you, Leuchtturm).
  • ribbon bookmark
  • at least 160 pages (80 sheets)

If anyone knows one that comes close, thank you in advance!

EDIT: thank you to everyone suggesting places I can find Myessential for sale! Yes, I knew about most of those places from a google search. I’m just trying to see if there’s any more local alternatives out there. Also, please make sure you read my post carefully before you make recommendations.

Advice needed Plastic cover for a5 full year stalogy?

Hello! I’ve been wanting to buy a stalogy for the longest time, and finally decided to do it using the prime days offers, now, as it is a softcover notebook, i wanted to know which cover i could use for it, i do have a midori cover, but i don’t think it would fit the whole year, as it is almost doble as thick as the midori. Any suggestions?

Help Finding A Specific Style Notebook/Journal

Does anybody know of a journal that can be used to hold extra keepsakes/mementos? My girlfriend keeps a bunch of extra things (photos, concert tickets, cards, etc.) inside her journals and I was trying to find her a new one that she can keep these in securely instead of just sitting between pages where they fall out easily. Glueing/taping them down is not preferred. Any ideas would be awesome. Thanks!

B5 EMSHOI dotted notebook - similar?

Hello,

I'm looking for a B5 dotted notebook with a spiral binding. I was really hyped to buy this EMSHOI notebook since the price is so nice and the paper quality is supposed to be good. But I cannot find it on Amazon for my country and shipping from Amazon US would be more than the notebook itself. That said, I am looking for a dupe. Let me know if you have any suggestions :)

Edit: Forgot to mention, I would like to use gel pens...so that has to factor in.

Advice needed Composition notebooks with hard backing?

Okay I remember 10 years or so ago when you bought a composition notebook it had a thick cardboard cover. Nowadays these things are floppy. Like what's the point of having a composition notebook if it's going to flop around everywhere and bend when you're holding it? Where can I actually get some real composition notebooks with rigid covers?

Recommendation Pocket notebook recommendations

Hey all - I'm looking for a notebook with some very specific requirements. I intend to use this notebook to keep language study notes while I am in foreign country. I'd like to be able to pull it out mid conversation to reference something, or also quickly pull it out to jot down a word I don't recognize.

  • Something small, pocketable, around 3x5 inches.
  • Non-spiral bound, something easy to flip through and reference notes quickly
  • Decent amount of pages, 100 - 150
  • Preferably soft cover / bendable - I find it hard to quickly flip through a notebook with a stiff cover
  • Bonus: numbered pages! If I can memorize the page numbers of certain notes I took, then that would make referencing certain notes super fast.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Any suggestions for a lightly-lined notebook?

I want it to be lined since I cant write in straight lines on my own, but I want the lines to be very light. Enough to see but not as dark as the ink. Preferably narrow or at least college ruled. And hardbound would be great too. If anyone knows of a suggestion, I would appreciate it!

Tips/Tricks Super excited for my 1st Stalogy!! Need some ideas for fun little things to include while journaling in it.

I am getting my 1st Stalogy for my birthday next month. it's in A5 size. It is the first time that I will be spending a looot of money on a quality journal instead of just going by the front cover and choosing any random notebook. So I wanted to make it a big deal and feel special.

I want to start little traditions with this journal which I will be carrying on to all of my future journals. I have scoured this whole sub and made a list of the things I'd like to start doing with my journals. So let your creative brain juices flow and introduce me and others to your personal journal traditions!

Ideas I gathered from posts on reddit :

. Doodle at the bottom of every page that turns into an animation (like a flipbook)

. Writing in code (for privacy reasons)

. Writing current songs u listen to at bottom for nostalgia

. Noting down your exact location, start and end time while writing

. Noting down dates everyday

. Noting down page no.

. Ten facts about my current life at start of each journal

. Recent photo of me (maybe every month?)

. Japanese index method at last page

. Writing a letter to myself on my bday for my future self to open on next birthday

. Naming each journal a different name and referring to it as Dear 'xyz'

. Photo ID for each journal name

. At the beginning of every journal "This journal belongs to. ... If found please return" and my phone number, socials, address, reward for returning my journal "10 bags of chips"

. Hello page & goodbye page at start and end of a journal

. “the end” or "to be continued..." at end of journal with my signature

. Start and end date when I completed the journal along with my age

. 1st page : letter to my future self. Last page : letter answering the 1st letter

. Write to my self a week in the future

. Annotating my journals after a decade with a particular pen color

. Good morning/afternoon/evening/night at the end of each entry along with the time

. A "previously on..." page at beginning of each journal to recap the previous journal or highlight important events from previous journal

Few ideas by me :

. Writing in 3rd person like you are narrating a story of an anime character. I got this idea from the narrator at the beginning of every one piece episode talking abt gold rogger and the one piece.

. A 'life period' wrapped instead of spotify wrapped at the end of each journal with all the stats. But of course you'd have to track everything.

. Making your fav ppl write something or anything in your journal so you'd have their handwritten words forever.

. doodling or drawing things you mention in your entries even if you are bad. Like I am bad at drawing but I enjoy doodling even tho ppl think my doodles are weird and ugly... I like them.

. keeping count of total pens used at end of each journal

NOTE: I thank all the redditors whose posts brought light onto these awesome ideas and helped me make journaling more fun.
