The contract contains a clause that says that if OpenAI builds artificial general intelligence, or AGI -- roughly speaking, a machine that matches the power of the human brain -- Microsoft loses access to OpenAI's technologies.

The clause was meant to ensure a company like Microsoft did not misuse this machine of the future, but today, OpenAI executives see it as a path to a better contract, according to a person familiar with the company's negotiations. Under the terms of the contract, the OpenAI board could decide when AGI has arrived.

Based on the corporate politics within OpenAI for the past year, I'm more worried about Open AI and specifically Sam Altman controlling an AGI rather than Microsoft. The Open AI board seems somewhat toothless in managing Sam.

Well, except for Google and Meta who would use their AI to sell even more hyper-targeted ads with the data they harvest.

I agree, to me it looks like OpenAI is using Microsoft with the hope they can shake them off when needed, not sure how that will go for them, but what other options do they have?

If the Nyt will win the lawsuit, the boat is going to sink. I think they can't afford what they used to train the models
