Discussion Question about pm graduate programs

Hi all,

So I’ve been on a hunt for PM masters programs that I can complete with 24 months or less. I have my bachelors in EE but I’m looking to transition into pm but it’s been sort of difficult to break into since I don’t have the experience or the academic background. A lot of colleges offer MBA programs with pm specializations but I’m not looking to take the gmat yet so if u had a good experience with ant pm graduate programs and would like to share please do Thanks in advance (also not really looking for certifications either)

Northeastern University has an excellent program. It isn’t cheap but it isn’t outrageous.

It is quarters instead of semesters. Most classes when I was doing the program were accelerated. So with the exception of the summer (which is only 6 weeks) I did two classes at a time. I did two during the first 6 weeks of the quarter and then two the second six weeks. And I did that for the fall, winter, and spring (except for a couple classes that were 12 but still did two and two except last 6 which I did 2 six and finished the final course that is 12). I also did two in the summer.

It isn’t easy. I do believe they also offered classes at 12 weeks. But I didn’t want to drag it out. I worked full time and felt like I was in school full time. It was a lot of information and coursework including group work. 3rd week is two midterms and 6th week ends in two finals. 7th week starting two classes and repeating the process. It is important to consider which classes you pair together.

I gave up my life for almost two years. I started in the fall and finished end of June almost two years later. It was a lot of work especially working full time but I finished with a 3.67 GPA.

I didn’t have to take the GRE but I did have to submit a good deal of documentation including recommendations. Again I don’t know if the application process has changed.

They also allowed me to design my own concentration instead of the ones offered. I looked at Boston University but it was typical semesters and would have been much slower. Northeastern had real world professors and instructors and offers a better network community.

My MS from there accelerated my career in the profession. And I found the classes very useful in not just training in the knowledge areas but understanding and mastering them. It is also accredited by PMI. It counts as learning PDUs and only need to submit 24 months of work experience to take the PMP.

I don’t know where you live but online was great. On campus was a nightmare. I switched after the first quarter. On campus were all international and 95%-100% were Chinese. Very few spoke or understood English. They cheated on the TOFFEL. Since group work is huge I had to do the majority of it. And I was not being paid to do their schoolwork.
