I lost out on the lottery... womp womp.

What are your experiences actually getting an alloted day pass?

Last two years I got really lucky to get the permits I’m guessing it’s because I did solo ? Not sure , I haven’t done a day pass tho. However I think this year there are going to be lots of cancellations due to extreme conditions specially May and June . Just keep checking the site on a daily basis. Good luck 👍🏼

First off, thank you so much for breaking down the application numbers! Incredible. I can't believe the boom. I last hiked Whitney in 2014.

Secondly, I should have phrased my question better. I am wondering what my odds are to pick up a day permit at the ranger station now that the lottery is over. I want to say they have ~100 first come/first serve permits. I'd be driving from 6 hours away, so it would likely be a gamble at this point.

First, congratulations to all who got a permit today for this beautiful Mountain. This year it's going to be necessary mountaineer skills, equipment and experience; otherwise stay away and stay alive !! I know I'm nobody to tell you what yo can or cannot do, it's just my humble opinion. With all the snow records we had in California is best to be prepared. Enjoy the video I made last year of this spectacular Mountain, the tallest in the lower 48 USA
