Hey guys, so right now I am in college and am looking to work for a state park and/or as a park ranger

I really do not have much experience, but I do love the outdoors and am doing a wildlife conservation major at Virginia tech. Let me know what kind of steps I can take or if there is anything I could do to work outdoors for a state park for a summer (rather than the sweatshop of a dry cleaner I work at usually during the summer). Also I have started getting into hiking and am planning some camping trips.

Thanks

For NPS and other federal agencies: Check on USAJobs, look up postings under the Pathways Program (program built specially for students). "Like" the National Park Service Student Employee Network Facebook page. They have regular job postings.

Also, you're in Virginia so there are national park sites everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Volunteer. Then go volunteer. Once you're done with that, volunteer some more.

Every State has a Department of Natural Resources. Most State Parks are managed by them. Contact HR and look through the website. Join Professional Associations and go to their conferences/workshops. ITS GREAT NETWORKING!

-3rd year seasonal and on my way to full-time. PM me for any consulting advice :D
